80, died Tuesday, August 9."Bob" as he was known to his friends, was born in Clinton, Indiana in 1925. He was raised in Metro Detroit. He graduated from Grosse Pointe High School (South) in 1943. Shortly after, Bob enlisted in the US Navy. He served with honor and pride aboard the USS Peter Tomich DE-242. Upon returning from the war, Bob went to work at Chrysler for the next 37 years where he went from journeyman electrician to plant management. After retiring from Chrysler, Bob returned to Grosse Pointe South High School as the plant manager for the Grosse Pointe School system. In 1950, he married the love of his life, Jacqueline Annette Hunter. The son of John and Martha Simpson, Bob is survived by his wife, Jacqueline; sister, Edris Johnson (of Vacaville, California); sons John (Michelle), Tim (Maureen) and Bob; grandchildren Bob, Natalie, Roxanne, Mary, Valerie, Laura; great grandson, John Gabriel, and many nieces and nephews. Bob was the deeply devoted husband to Jacqueline and loving father to his boys. He enjoyed reading, music and history. He particularly enjoyed hearing his wife's angelic voice at church. He was actively involved at their church for many years. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 13, 1:00 pm at Grosse Pointe United Church, 240 Chalfonte Avenue, Grosse Pointe Farms, MI. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the church.
