Robert Todd Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 28 to Aug. 29, 2023.
Robert ("Bob") Lee Todd, 81, passed away at his home in Niederwald, Texas on January 2, 2023. He was born in Michigan on August 30, 1941 and raised with his sister Sally and brothers Mike, Dan, and Larry. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert F. and V. Jean Todd. He is survived by his wife Lawanda; daughters Helen, RosaLea, and Esther, and six grandchildren.

Bob moved to Texas while serving in the United States Air Force and chose to make Texas his permanent home after retiring.

"Dad, We remember so many things about you. We remember your love of the outdoors, exploring even in the cold, working in the big country yard, playing putt-putt, umpiring little league, your love of the water, and teaching us to canoe. We remember your analytical mind, your super efficient packing, expert gift wrapping, love of jigsaw puzzles, logic problems, and gadgets. We embrace the impact your military service had on us, teaching a lifelong pride in the uniform, a feeling of home at any base, learning a unique swim stroke, folding the sheet corners when making the bed, and an instinct to say Sir and Ma'am even though we are now grown. We remember your love of food, including buffets, Peppers at the Falls, secret trips to McD, caramel popcorn balls on Christmas Eve and chocolate covered cherries every Christmas. We remember your quiet yet reassuring way of showing us we were important, special nicknames, dad jokes before they were popular, patience in teaching us, $2 bills in birthday cards, letting us perch on your knee, even a tough love talk when it was appropriate. We remember your precise handwriting, specific favorite pen, and notes added to the margins of our letters and then returned. Even after all the years apart, we still remember you. We now are you in so many ways. So we hold onto what we did have. Having that final hug and seeing the love in your eyes has always been a treasured moment. Robert Lee Todd wasn't a perfect man but we pray with everything inside us that he knew he has been and will always be loved unconditionally by his girls."

There was a service followed by interment at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX. His daughters fondly remember spending time with him at the nearby Quadrangle, and are comforted knowing he is forever home near that peaceful place.
