Robert "Verg" Cork Obituary

Robert "Verg" Cork, 91, joined his wife in eternal peace on April 13, 2025. Verg was born on June 20, 1933 in Melvin, IL, but lived most of his life in Elgin, IL. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Edna Cork, 2 sisters(Jean & Karen) and 3 brothers (Charles, Delmar, Omer). His memories are being cherished by his siblings DiAnna and Ray (Diane), and his 4 loving children: Calais Studdard (Ronnie), Susie Geltner (Jim), Jeff Cork, Kathi Burhite (Rob), plus 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Verg lived a full life. He married Mary Heine on September 1, 1951, and they shared 64 loving years, raising 4 children and building their legacy. He was an amazing, hardworking man who knew the value of the almighty dollar. He held several full-time jobs throughout his life, and as a side hustle he was a house flipper, even before it became popular. He completed his work-life with 25 years as a self-employed, highly skilled drywall taper. His continued interest in real estate led him to learn the art of farm ownership/management by purchasing farms in central Illinois, close to where he was born. In his spare time, he loved being a softball fast-pitch pitcher, playing on several teams with his brothers. He also loved woodworking, crafting and inventing things with his bare hands.

Verg loved to make people laugh with his quirky jokes and sense of humor. He always said "life is not fun unless you laugh, and remember, don't take any wooden nickels."

To honor Verg's memory, a Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 31st, at West Ridge Church, 3300 Encounter Lane, Elgin, Illinois, beginning at 2:00 p.m., with a reflection service at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate in the memory of Robert Cork to West Ridge Church at https://westridgechurch.com/give/ or send a donation to the church address.
