Robert Winters Jr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 17, 2025.
Robert "Bob" Winters Jr. passed away peacefully on December 1, 2024 at the age of 68, after many years battling diabetes, heart disease and end stage kidney failure.

Bob was the eldest of 3 sons born to Robert and Lanora Winters. He grew up in Pueblo, Colorado and had a natural bent for learning, particularly math and electronics. He graduated from Pueblo East High School and began his federal civil service career working at the Pueblo Army Depot. In 1978 he transferred to McClellan Air Force Base near Sacramento, California where he met his future wife, Daunice. They married and had three children, before transferring back to Colorado Springs and settling in Black Forest, CO.

Bob was a family man who remained very close with his brothers, parents, and grandparents throughout their lives. His greatest joys were raising his children and entertaining his 8 grandchildren, and he never failed to attend their many sporting and musical events to watch them in action. Throughout his life he enjoyed fishing, riding motorcycles, quilting, building guitars, and tinkering with electronics. He would take anything apart to see how it worked, and he loved seeing that same spark of curiosity in his kids and grandkids.

Bob will be remembered for his humility and generosity. There was nothing he owned that he wouldn't let you borrow if you had need of it. On multiple occasions, he opened up his home for extended periods to family and friends in need of a place to live while getting back on their feet. Bob was a man of faith and he attended the many locations of Rocky Mountain Calvary and Springs Lighthouse. Bob knew his salvation only came through Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Daunice; daughter Kaitlyn, sons Ryan (Kristyn), and Erik: grandchildren, Brennan, Adrian, Olivia, Natalie, Andrew, Claire, Scarlett, and Bridget; his brother Doug (Judy); sisters-in-law, Kathy (Tracy) and Lisa (Sean); brothers-in-law, Donald and Darin (Jill); his cousins Ken (Cari) and Kelly (Chuck), and his Aunt Linda (Dave).

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lanora, his youngest brother Mike, his cousin Kurt, and his beloved Grandma Knapp.

Funeral services will be held at Springs Lighthouse: 4777 N Academy Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80918 on Saturday, March 8th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Bob's memory to the National Kidney Foundation at www.kidney.org

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the friends and family who provided support throughout Bob's final years.
