Mr Young was my Band Directer from the time I was in 5th grade in Buchanan Elementary in 1981 until my graduation in 1988. I started out as a trumpet, then in Botetourt Intermediate Mr. Young asked that I switched to Baritone, then as a freshman at James River he asked me to switch to Tuba. Then for my sophomore year, he purchased a better tuba just for me. I enjoyed being his student. I found this obituary looking for him on the internet tonight. I wanted to call him up and say hello. I am deeply saddened to find that I am too late. We affectionately referred to him as 'Uncle Bob.' God bless you Uncle Bob. Rest in peace.

Tammy,
I was very sad to hear of Bob passing away. He was a joy to get to know. I will remember his laugh and always wanting to know when you were coming. He was a good man. He couldnt of ask for a better wife either. You were always there for him too. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I taught with Bob at James River High School back in the day. I have been the art teacher at James River since 1977 so we taught together and laughed together on many occasions. I can remember Bob having a laugh and just shaking his head with that smile about something that had happened at school. He just let it roll off his shoulders and go on! He was a great instrumentalist and the kids really loved him. We will miss him and my sympathy is with his family at this sad time.
