CHICOPEE - Roland L. "Rollie" Roy, 75, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Monday January 12, 2004 from his home with his loving daughter, Pamela by his side. He was born on March 7, 1928 and raised in the Aldenville section of Chicopee, a beloved son of the late Conrad G. and Juliette C. (St. Jean) Roy. As a young boy, he took trumpet lessons at Jerry's Music Store in Holyoke and played in Dick Robert's Band. He was a member of the Chicopee High School Band and was a graduate of the class of 1946. He also was a member of the former Post 70 Marching Band of Springfield, which is now known as the Marksmen Marching Band. He later attended the Gaugh School of Business and American International College. Upon his graduation from high school, he enlisted during World War II in the United States Marine Corps and served his country for two enlistments and attained the rank of Sergeant. Following the service, he worked for the United States Armory in Springfield. He then accepted a position at the American Writing Company in the Linden Division in Holyoke as a cost accountant. He later accepted a position with the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Northampton and moved to Keene, New Hampshire where he resided for over 13 years and became the plant manager. While living in Keene he was active in various organizations. He was the former treasurer of the Keene Chapter of Industrial Management and taught office management at the Junior Achievement. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and a life member and former Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge 927. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Supreme Council of the Scottish Rite Shrine all in Keene, NH. In 1979 he returned to the Aldenville section of Chicopee and purchased the former P. O. Luncheonette in Holyoke and operated it until 1989. Upon the sale of the business he went to work in the food service department at Western New England College in Springfield. He leaves his loving children, Mark R. Roy and his wife Janice of Meriden, CT and Pamela J. Secore and her husband William of West Chesterfield, NH. His four cherished grandchildren, Kristi A. Johnson and her husband Matthew, William H. Secore, Jr., Nicholas Roy and Zachary Roy. His three cherished great-grandchildren, Tazia, Alyssa and Sawyer. His dear brother, Albert H. Roy and his wife Jeannette of Aldenville. His former wife, Constance P. (Roukey) Roy of Aldenville. His paternal aunt who turned 101 years of age in 2003, Parmelia (Roy) Henault of Chicopee. He also leaves his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and his many cherished friends. He was predeceased by his dear brother, Richard R. Roy who was Called Home on October 31, 1993. His relatives and friends are invited to call at the St. Pierre Aldenville Funeral Chapels, 13 Dale Street at the junction of Grattan Street in Aldenville on Friday January 16, 2004 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home off of Lafayette Street. A prayer service will be conducted during the visitation at 5:30 p.m. His burial will be private at the convenience of the family at St. Rose Cemetery on Olsen Street in Aldenville.
