Ronald Alfred Burkard, aged 83, passed away on March 16, 2024, at Jefferson Abingdon Hospital in Abingdon, Pennsylvania. Born on January 19, 1941, Ronald lived a life marked by a deep appreciation for the arts, a commitment to public service, and a profound love for his family and friends.

Ronald's early career saw him gracing the stages of Broadway, where he indulged his passion for theater. He later dedicated 24 years to the Howard Johnson Corporation in Queens Village, New York, before serving as a Food Safety Inspector with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, achieving a GS-11 ranking. His 26 years in this role underscored his dedication to public health and safety.

A veteran, Ronald served in the U.S. Army from September 17, 1965, to October 31, 1969. He was stationed at Camp Casey, Seoul, Korea, and received an Honorable Discharge, reflecting his commitment and honor in serving his country.

Ronald was a man of diverse interests, ranging from classical music to gardening. He was an avid fan of both the Giants and the Mets, and cherished the times spent with his children and grandchildren in Boise, Idaho. His love for boating and the ocean was profound, reflecting his adventurous spirit and appreciation for nature.

Educated at Bushwick High School and later at Texas A&M Bryant College Station, Texas, Ronald's academic background laid a foundation for his varied and impactful career.

Ronald is survived by his beloved companion of 28 years, Gisela Herschel; his children, Michael Burkard, Glenn Burkard, and Lauren Burkard Ricket; and his grandchildren, Zak, Blake, Ian Burkard, Josh Waggoner, Jessica Ricket, and Eric Ricket. He also leaves behind Gisela's children, Kurt, Eric (and wife Judy), and Peter Herschel, and grandsons Sean and Colin Herschel. His sisters, Margaret Hennessy, June Giardelli, and Laura Hughes, along with numerous nephews and nieces, will remember his warmth and enduring humor.

Preceding him in death were his parents, William and Gertrude Hughes Burkard; brothers, Richard W. Burkard and Robert B. Burkard; and niece, Lorraine Miranda.

A Celebration of Life will be held in April 2025, where friends and family will gather to honor Ronald's legacy and share memories of a life well-lived. Ronald's life was one of profound impact and gentle humor, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
