Ronald Cooley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 3, 2024.
Ronald Joseph Cooley, known affectionately as Ron or "Doc" to his golf buddies, passed away on July 19, 2024, in Concord, North Carolina, at the age of 82. Born on November 26, 1941, in Springfield, Massachusetts, he was a beloved figure in his community and a dedicated educator.

Ron is survived by his loving wife of more than 40 years, Carol Cooley; daughters, Dawn Janson, Darcy King, and Kristin Colford; son-in-law, Mike Janson. He was a proud grandfather to Ashlee Visnic, Corey Janson, Alyssa Janson, Kasey Colford, and Karly Colford, and great-grandfather to Pierce, Marshall, and Austin Visnic. Ron adored his beautiful Shih Tzu, Phoebe. He also leaves behind cherished memories with numerous other relatives and lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Ruth McKee, and his sister, Judy Reed.

During their life together, Ron and Carol resided in Coconut Creek, Lake Placid, and Palm City, FL. They also loved their home in Newland, NC. These were all very special places where they enjoyed family and dear friends.

Ron graduated from Enfield High School in Enfield, Connecticut. He attended college in Connecticut and received both Bachelor's and
Master's degrees.

Ron started his professional career as an educator in Connecticut. He moved to Florida in 1974. There he worked as an Exceptional Student Education Teacher and Program Specialist with the School Board of Broward County in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, serving from 1974 until his retirement in 2008. His commitment to education and the betterment of students with special needs marked a significant contribution to the community.

A passionate golfer, Ron played 18 holes four times a week up until the week before his passing, proudly shooting an 81 in his last round, proving he still had it! His enthusiasm for golf brought him a large circle of friends, with whom he shared many joyful moments on and off the course.

Ron's love for his family, friends, and the game of golf will be remembered by all who knew him.

My thoughts and prayers go out to my dear friend, Carol, and her family.
Over the past year I had the pleasure of getting to know Ron and playing golf with he and Carol at Monarch.
Some of my clubs needed new grips and Ron graciously re-gripped them before leaving for North Carolina. Not that the new grips improved my game much, but it was worth a shot.
Ron, may you rest in peace, but if you´re looking to play golf in heaven just let Al know...I´m sure you´ll find him on the course.
