Sad news about Ron Curle. I can't believe it. He was an inspiration to me, oddly enough, as he lived his life the way I wanted to -- free and without bounds. His infectious laugh and general attitude of fellow ship and gleeful delight in life, to say nothing of his persistence in getting his long sought engineering degree, always brought a smile to my face. I did not know him well, but I somehow feel the world will be a slightly less fullsome place now that he's gone.
If I could I would have come to Calgary as it would be good to see old friends and say good bye to those who have passed.

Dear Monica,
We have only just learned about Ron's passing. Although we have not seen you in many years, our memories of Ron span 20 years, starting in college in the early 70s. As we read the guest book comments below, we were deeply saddened to hear that he lost a fight with Cancer but not surprised by the thread of praise and glowing remarks about his attitude and zest for life. My fond memories of Ron include cartwheels in the Cav, antics while attending an undergrad Eng conference in Waterloo with P.F., "all in" with a Red 3 & Black 7, helping Karen organize my 30th surprise b'day party in S'toon, and SO much more. To say Ron loved life and brought the best out of others, doesn't seem to be adequate. He will be missed.
Our hearts go out to you & your families.

I have never met a person who had a bad thing to say about Ron. He was one of those truly remarkable friends, and one of the easiest people you could ever meet. Always a cheery smile and a friendly wink. The world is a lesser place without Ron.

What always impressed me about Ron is how sincere he was. Even when he was battling his illness, he connected with our family to see how we were dealing with a couple of different stressful situations in our lives. Always smiling, always positive, always making you feel better having been in his presence, he will be missed.
Be well Monica. Our thoughts are with you.

Monica & Family,
I was saddened to hear of Ron leaving us. I had the privilege of working with Ron for many years. He was a Prince of a man and will always be remembered. Please accept my condolences.

I would dearly have liked to attend Ron's memorial, but I was out of town. Please accept my commiseration to his family. I worked with Ron at NOVA and then when he was on a project in South America. I was later lucky enough to work on a Kinder Morgan project with him. I always had all the time in the world for Ron.
I last saw him when I had lunch with him last year in Calgary and he was in high spirits and as always a gentleman and a true professional.
A sad loss for our industry.

Dear Monica & Family,
I am sorry to hear of your recent loss. I worked with Ron during the early, mid 90's at Nova Gas Transmission in the Pipeline division.
I found Ron to be fun and easy to get along with and in particular, I wish to share a story of his willingness to make a difference.
During the downsizing and reorganization the morale had reached an all-time low.
Some of us decided to put on a boxer short fashion show and who would have thought we would attract 20 models to included at least 3 department managers and of course Ron.
Ron showed up in his red and white heart shorts, but forgot to bring a shirt... In good clean fun, I teased with him that he would drive the women wild. I looked at one of the managers dressed like batman and insisted he pass on his cape to Ron before we went on stage. It really did make a difference during a very difficult time and I have pictures to prove it that I would be more than happy to share with you.
My wish for is that each day brings you a beautiful memory of your life with Ron.
God bless you and yours.

I first worked with Ron in the early 90s at NOVA; then he & Monica disappeared Internationally, and that was about it until he recruited me into IPPI for 2005 - 08. He was one of the two best guys I ever worked for/with: you could trust his value system, and you could trust his knowledge - it never gets better than that.
I wish I'd followed his approach to life over the years, and that I'd been wise enough and lucky enough to have spent more time with him.
Farewell Ron; may there still be singing birds and sunshine for you, Monica - you're both a class act.

Dear Monica & family;
We extend our deeptest sympathy to you. Ron was one of those remarkable people who made life brighter and more fun. It's impossible to think of him without smiling. He leaves behind a lifetimes worth of smiles, laughs, hugs, stories & memories that we cherish. We sincerely hope your memories will help as you face life without the one & only, Ron.
Love,
P.F. & Wendy

I don’t often start a story with “I remember the first time I met (so-and-so), because it typically isn’t that memorable, but I remember the first time I met Ron.
I was an engineer-in-training at NOVA and a group of us had travelled up to Dawson Creek to watch the construction on the Peace River crossing. It was no small task. Ron was the project manager.
When we arrived late in the day, one of the other engineers brought our group to Ron’s hotel room. Ron didn’t hesitate to invite us to a BBQ that evening hosted by the chief inspector, but then added that we were to bring our own steaks. At that time of day there wasn’t a store open in Dawson Creek and I offered that the EIT’s would go eat at a restaurant and crash the BBQ later, but Ron said, “don’t worry.” He picked up the phone and called room service requesting six, raw striploins. The hotel staff was not accommodating. After some discussion, Ron sounded like he was conceding defeat and said, “okay, then, but can I order some meals to my room?” and he proceeded to order six New York steak dinners, no potato, no rice, no French fries, no vegetable, no salad, no soup and make the steaks raw. Room service arrived shortly with six covered plates, each with a raw steak and piece of parsley.
Not only did Ron make it so we could attend the BBQ and fit in (as much as an EIT can fit in) but he armed us with a great story we could use as an ice breaker in a crowd of strangers.
Always taking care of others, generous at every tailgate and Stampede party, he made you feel important.
My deepest condolences,
Stuart & Sandi Keck

Monica,
Lori, I and the girls were very sad to hear of Ron's passing. I for one will forever remember him for a very smart man who always made everyone else feel very much part of any team he was on while still getting his way !! I can remeber many nights in the field or in San Rafael discussing projects, life, laughing and realizing how lucky we were to be good friends and still have the chance to work with each other on occasion. Our prayers are with you and your family at this sad time.
