Ronald Gee Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 4, 2015.

Gee, R. Keith

R. Keith Gee, Esq, a lifelong resident of Metairie, Louisiana passed away on April 4, 2015 at the young age of 56. Beloved son of Lillie Hom Gee and the late Yeun Lin Gee. Brother of Cynthia “Cindy” G. Yee, DDS, brother-in-law of Darryl Yee and uncle / Godfather of Tommy Yee. Also survived by scores of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

After graduating from Jesuit High School in 1976, Keith entered Tulane University graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering in 1980. He obtained a Juris Doctorate from Tulane University School of Law in 1983. After a distinguished career with Texaco’s Legal Department, he served as an Assistant to a Jefferson Parish Councilman before joining the Horsemen’s Benevolent & Protection Association as its Executive Director.

Keith had many passions and loved life. First and foremost, he was devoted to caring for his mother. He also loved sports as evidenced by his life-long season tickets for the New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Pelicans. He cherished his time coaching and mentoring generations of young athletes in the

Jefferson Parish Recreation Department. A Member of the athletic/social group OTMAC, Keith loved playing basketball. He rarely missed a major sporting event, attending dozens of World Series games, NCAA Final Fours, the Kentucky Derby, and Super Bowls, none better than the Saints’ 2009 Super Bowl win! He rarely missed opening day at the races, specifically attending opening weekend at Saratoga. He was a master-mind of horse racing handicapping, and had been known to play a hand or two of poker. He reveled in Mardi Gras whether throwing beads from a float or trying to avoid catching a bag of beads with the side of his head from his many friends. Keith often said that he was able to check off his bucket list many times over and had no regrets.

Having been diagnosed last December, Keith faced a short, hard fought battle with liver cancer with bravery. He underwent treatment at MD Anderson in Houston and continued at East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie with the love, assistance, and support of many family members and good friends. He passed peacefully in his sleep moments after his mother, Lillie and sister, Cindy were able to say their last “I love you”.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at The Chapel of the North American Martyrs, on the campus of Jesuit High School, 4133 Banks Street, New Orleans, LA 70119, on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 10, 2015 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. and on Saturday at The Chapel of the North American Martyrs (location above) from 10:00 am until service time. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Chinese Presbyterian Church, 2901 W. Esplanade, Kenner, LA 70065 or to the memory of Keith Gee at Jesuit High School.

We wish to thank The Gayle and Tom Benson Foundation, as well as numerous other friends for their generous donations to Jesuit High School in memory of Keith. The Jesuit Math Department will now be named, The Keith Gee ’76 Mathematics Department, in his honor. The family appreciates the special care and generosity of Drs. Monty Glorioso and Mark Wegmann, as well as his many caregivers.

Lillie,
Keith was 10 yrs younger than me. So, i still often think of him ..as that tiny, shy kid. But i am impressed at how well he evolved into adulthood--which speaks volumes, as to your success... as a mother

RIP, Keith

What a kind and wonderful, generous man; I am proud to have known you. I was especially delighted when you coached my son on his first football team 5 years ago. I am a member of the Jesuit Math Dept, I look forward to passing your name and working to live up to; so many are saddened by your passing. Horse Racing in particular has lost a great friend, John Lavie

In a sport such as horse racing that is riddled with question marks, you were without question, one of nicest, most endearing people that I've ever. To say that you'll be missed is an understatement. You defined class. God Bless you and your family.
