Hermsmeier, Ronald "Ron"
COTTAGE GROVE – Ronald "Ron" Hermsmeier, age 89, passed away Sunday, Jan. 24, 2021, at his home. He was born March 4, 1931, to Irvin and Estelle (Witte) Hermsmeier in Madison. Ron graduated from Madison East High School and earned his fine arts degree from Layton School of Art in Milwaukee. He served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Ron married Trudy Tschanz in Bryn Mawr Church in Cottage Grove on July 24, 1954. He was the owner of Ronlies Flowers Madison East, West, and Sauk City. His flower shops were known for their artistic designs. Ron was asked to be a designer for many conferences and classes in the floral industry. After over 33 years he became a licensed insurance agent serving the floral industry, covering both Wisconsin and Minnesota.
His most cherished time was when he became a pastor to be used by the Lord. He spent over 27 years on mission trips to Chile, other South American countries, Peru, Brazil, Argentina, and also Liberia, England and Sweden.
Ron was proud and blessed to be a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather (Papa). He loved attending the sporting events they were a part of and was known for his loud cheering at the games. During retirement he enjoyed traveling to islands, renting a sailboat, scuba diving, or seeing the mountains out West. Ron was known by his family for his stories about days long ago on the farm and telling a story during the holidays.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Trudy; daughters, Daun Garcia (Ron) and Reneé Showers (Ronnie); son, Michael Hermsmeier (Debra); grandchildren, Nichole Showers, Melissa O'Brien (Shawn), Justin Garcia (Alicia), Kayla Garcia and Eliza Hermsmeier Fiscus; and great-grandchildren, Logan, Brantley and Adley. Ron was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Julie; Trudy's parents; and other extended family members.
During his lifetime he taught us about humor, strength, compassion, and love, all of which he credited to his walk with the Lord.
A private memorial service will be held. Family and friends who wish to view the service via LIVE STREAM may visit Ron's obituary page at www.gundersonfh.com and click on the Live Webcast link at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2021.
