Ronald (Larry) Badger Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 4 to Aug. 9, 2023.
A rare and special person was lost to us leaving a large hole in the hearts of many. Larry was a master leather craftsman and woodsman. He had a passion for history and was a member of the Sierra Muzzle Loaders and The American Mountain Man Association. He was a naturalist and horseman who had a healthy respect for nature and animals. He loved riding his Harley Davidson's and was the founder of Just Riding America, a local motorcycle group of friends. He was known for constructing popular hawk and knife throwing ranges, and was a winning competitor.

Larry was an honest and stand up man whose hand shake was good as gold. He never lied or cheated anyone and when he told you something you could believe it. He lived his life on his terms. Spoke his mind and was unapologetic for who he was. He was fiercely loyal to those he loved and in turn he was loved by many. His laughter, stories and pranks will long be remembered.

He was the shelter in our storm. A man amoung men. The grandest example of grit, the truest of souls, and we were lucky to have known him. Thank you for the journey our brother, uncle, friend and hero.

Larry is survived by his sister, Lori Smith; girlfriend, Ann Tatum, nieces, Kelly Zimmerman, Jennifer and Kimberly Perches and grand nieces and nephews, Chelsea, Westin, William, Madison, Keegan, Cameron and Bella and countless friends and family members. A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held on September 2, 2023 at Elks Lodge in Nevada City.

Larry was one of the first person's I met when I moved here in 1979. I remember the trek out to his paradise in the woods. Always made me chuckle when he told about bathing in the ice cold river. I always enjoyed hanging out at his place, it brought peace and serenity in just being there. Larry was always a kind and gentle soul and a true friend to so many. Of course throughout the years we'd bump into each other and he always had a bear hug to give. Gone too soon. "Ride high with God" my friend.

First man I ever met who lived in a tree house. 1978/79 I have great memories of Larry - either on the Yuba River, his piece of heaven in Rough & Ready, or in Reno. I feel very fortunate to have met him

Badger was a double Brother to me. First he was my AMM American Mountain Men Brother and also a Harley Brother. He always treated people with respect and was a stand up man. He will be missed by all that had the honor of knowing him. He will be waiting for us just on the other side when it's our time to cross over. Go easy Brother.
