Ronald Vowell Jr. VIRGINIA BEACH - Ronald "Ron" Vowell Jr. passed away peacefully Jan. 26, 2010 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family and close friends. Born in Cumberland, Md., Jan. 14, 1961, he attended Fort Ashby grade school, Fort Hill Junior High School and graduated from Cox High School in Virginia Beach in 1979. He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Vowell Sr. and maternal grandparents, Garland and Leila Sommerlatt, Cumberland, Md. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 18 years, Marie Ann Vowell; sons, Aaron Vowell and Thomas Beasley and daughter Tiffany Beasley; two grandchildren, Dylan and Aubrey, all of Virginia Beach; his mother, Iris Vowell and brother Tracy Vowell, both of Cumberland, Md.; sister, Krista Clark, husband Kevin and three special nieces of Virginia Beach; and paternal grandmother, Joyce Vowell of Tucson, Ariz. Ron was a Christian member of the Avalon Church of Christ and employed by American Steel as a shop foreman. Ron's passion was sports and devoted many years of coaching his son through the Courthouse Recreation, basketball, football and baseball leagues always giving 110% to the kids. An avid NASCAR and Redskins fan, Ron enjoyed Sundays with his buddies watching a race or game hanging out in the garage. He will always be remembered as a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather "Papa" and loyal friend to many who gratefully showed their love and support throughout his life. Ron will be deeply missed by all. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 31. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1. Both will be located at Rosewood Kellum Funeral & Memorial Park, 601 North Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach. To celebrate his life please send donations to www.aimatmelanoma.org.
