ROSA GAMARRA-THOMSON Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 27, 2009.
GAMARRA-THOMSON ROSA MARCELINA
(ROSITA GAMARRA)
Apr. 5, 1946 - Dec. 16, 2009. It is impossible to reckon the number of lives that Rosita touched during her lifetime. A scholar, mentor, teacher, healer, devoted friend, wife and mother, Rosa led a breathtakingly warm and full life. She departed this world unexpectedly, but happily and peacefully in her sleep while visiting family in New Jersey. Through her work as a healer and life coach, Rosita positively affected many lives. She was also active in her community, singing for many years as an alto in the Coro Latinoamericano and teaching popular low impact yoga classes at the Monroeville Senior Citizens Center. Strong, warm and fiercely independent, Rosa left an indelible mark on everyone she met. She loved to sing, to dance, to cook, and especially to feed others. She loved to create recipes of her own invention, combining Peruvian cooking with her own special style -- dinners at Rosita's house were legendary. In the end she would not want us to linger in grief at her sudden passing, but rather to celebrate the incredible fullness of the life that she lived -- a life of love, warmth, laughter, and courage. She will remain with us always. A memorial service will be held in Rosa's honor at the First Unitarian Church of Pittsburgh on Saturday, January 2nd at 11 am. All are welcome.

Rosa,
The calendar shows the start of a new year. A new year which will not include your physical presence.

The calendar shows the start of a new year. A new year in which I will hold dear the conversations we had, the importance they have had, the knowing smiles they contained.

Your importance to the time in my life I had in which to know you will not diminish, as the lessons learned continue to grow for us, sometimes slowly, always there.

Thank you.

Tomás

Dear Nina and Mark
They say that those whom we've loved never relly leave us. They live forever in our hearts and cast their radiant light onto our very shadow
How true that is of Rosita; her kindness, generous spirit and so much we learned from her will warm our hearts till we meet again
A beautiful life has been lived; in celebration, in sympathy, Isabel G. Porterfield

Dear Mark and Nina: I can not describe with words the deep pain I felt when I found out Rosita had passed. I can’t believe that I couldn’t say good bye when she was in my mind since Thanksgiving Day. She was always such and inspiration in my life and in my kids lives, always full of LOVE and a POSITIVE attitude in everything she did, full of wisdom and compassion for others, the “PERFECT GIVER”. May GOD bless her soul!

Dear Mark and Nina,
I am very sad for the news about Rosita's decease. I shared with her happy times at the Latin American Choir and with our friends of the Latin American Cultural Union. I remember once when Rosita invited me to sing Christmas carols in Spanish at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Murrysville. Rosita had a nice life full with accomplishments and braveness. I hope you will have in your memories of Rosita, a little bit of her soul and comfort. Blessings, Jorge

Rosa!
You flew into our lives for a short time, and just as suddenly, you flew out. Your impact will last with us forever, you will never be forgotten, our kitchen, and the food we eat daily, is everything you taught us.

There is a candle burning in the kitchen window for you, and everywhere I look I see you. I will miss your presence on earth terribly, but all I have to do is shut my eyes, breathe deeply, and your radiant smile and beautiful being stands right in front of me, arms wide, saying "Hello, my darling!".
Although right now we have to say goodbye in this particular way, we will keep saying "Hello, my darling!" to each other forever.

Beauty is before me and Beauty behind me.
Above me and below me hovers the beautiful.
I am surrounded by it, I am immersed in it.
In my youth I am aware of it, and, in old age,
I shall walk quietly the beautiful trail.
In beauty, it is begun,
In beauty, it is ended.
