Rosalyn Sledd

Rosalyn Teresa Sledd née Gaw, beloved aunt, cousin and friend, passed away peacefully Monday, July 8, at Zon Beachside at the age of 98.

She was born to John and Anna Gaw of Philadelphia, PA on January 6, 1926. Upon graduating from high school, she began a career with the Department of the Navy at the Air Technical Services Facility, where she rose to the highest civilian position in the installation, carrying the title of Technical Director at the time of her retirement. This was an extraordinary accomplishment for a woman at that time.

She met the love of her life, Herman (Jack) Sledd in Philadelphia and they were married on May 10,1947. They lived in Philadelphia and Palmyra, New Jersey. After an exceptional career, she retired to Indialantic-By-The-Sea, Florida.

As always, Roz became involved in her church, and she and Jack donated time and resources to the expansion of the church and school. She also served three terms as President of the Daisy Pickers, a service group tending to seniors. In addition, she was active in the local Kiwanis and Eau Gallie Yacht Club.

She is predeceased by her husband, Jack, her parents John and Anna Gaw, her brother Gilbert and her brother John Gaw and his wife, Mary. She is survived by her nephew, Michael Gaw and his wife, Beth; cousin, Rosalie Bourg and husband, Jim; niece Debra Sinko; niece Susan Snow and her husband Garland and nephew Michael Sledd. She is also survived by her dear friend and caregiver, Pat Friedman, and her husband Steve.

It has been said that what one does for themselves will die with them, but what one does for others will live forever. Roz's contributions to her country and community will live on through the many lives she touched with her kindness, humor and generosity.

A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Sledd will be held on January 6, her birthday, at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Indialantic. Visitation at 12:30, Mass at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church.
