Rosemary Cochran Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 11, 2025.
Rosemary "Rosie" Cochran, died on August 9, 2025, in Sylacauga, Alabama, at the age of 67. Born on April 19, 1958, in Anderson, South Carolina, she lived a life marked by compassion, resilience, and unwavering grace. Rosie passed away peacefully at sunrise at her home on Saturday morning. She was buried the same day at sunset at Whispering Hills Natural Cemetery and Memorial Nature Preserve.

Rosie pursued her education with dedication, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing through studies at Clemson University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Her professional journey reflected her deep commitment to caring for others. She began her nursing career as an RN intern at UAB and went on to serve in the fields of infectious disease and rheumatology. Her work extended beyond hospital walls when she served as a school nurse in Germany. Later in life, she brought her leadership and organizational skills to bear as an administrator in her husband's dental practice.

Throughout her life, Rosie faced significant health challenges with remarkable courage. She battled Myotonic Dystrophy (DM1) for many years-a condition that eventually required the use of a wheelchair. Even amid these trials, she remained a joyful presence to those around her. Her gracious spirit and kind heart left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Rosie is lovingly remembered by her husband, Joel E. Cochran; her daughters, Kayleigh Ruth Mahone (Graves) and Emily Rose Cochran; and her cherished granddaughter, Rosemary Jane Mahone. She also leaves behind her mother, Emily W. Reed of Anderson, SC; her brothers James W. "Jim" Reed III of Anderson, SC; Thomas Reed (Donna) of Pendleton, SC; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Wilson Reed.

A woman of quiet strength and enduring kindness, Rosie's legacy lives on through the lives she touched both personally and professionally. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. A Memorial Gathering will be held on August 17, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Whispering Hills Natural Green Cemetery & Memorial Nature Preserve, 3550 Mooty Bridge Road, La Grange, GA 30240. Bring the children, the dogs, the bikes for outdoor food, fun, and fellowship.

A wonderful blessing came to me and my daughters when our families met on vacation in Myrtle Beach. Rosie and Joel welcomed my girls to join the fun with theirs and many summers of good memories were made. I enjoyed our conversations and her beautiful smile. Her positivity. My deepest sympathy to Joel, Kaleigh, Emily and the entire family.

I will truly miss talking to Rosie at church on Sunday. Her smile was infectious, and I felt that we were telling secrets to each other as we whispered in the back of the church. Praying for your family as you lay her to rest.

Rosemary was one of my first friends when I moved to Anderson in 1968. She sat in front of me in 6th grade and we often compared notes in math class. She wore her hair in a long braid I always admired. In seventh grade we were is confirmation class at Central Presbyterian. She was baptized during our joining the church. It was the first time I knew an older person (not a baby) to be baptized. It was very special. Rosie was a wonderful young lady. I had the privilege of photographing her marriage to Joel. They were a lovely couple and they couldn´t have been more in love. Prayers and peace to her family.

I went to Concord Elementary School (grades 1-6) and McCants Jr High School (grade 7) with Rosemary. She was a friendly and pleasant person who was liked by all. I have very fond memories of her. She was smart too - I remember asking her for help with homework several times - she was very gracious, even at a young age. God bless you, Rosemary. God bless you and all such fine people. Joel,
I am so, so sorry for your loss. I am still a little shocked-she was just at church a couple of weeks ago. I didn´t really know Rosie and I didn´t have a complete understanding of her physical challenges, but I could see things were difficult for her. There is no doubt that things have been difficult for you as well. It was obvious that both of you were committed, strong, and faithful and set an example for all of us to follow.

I have heard it said all of my life that "all we can do is pray" which initially sounds a little hopeless because we want to be able to fix everything and everybody. But I have come to believe that "prayer changes things" and that our commitment to pray for someone is actually the most we can do.

So know that you are in my thoughts and that I am praying for you and your family and Rosie´s family as well.
