Roswitha Pillard Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 26, 2024.
Roswitha (Rose) Elisabeth (Koss) Pillard, a cherished mother, sister, and friend, passed away on October 21, 2024, after a fiercely courageous battle with cancer. She leaves behind a loving family, including her two daughters, Beth Adrian (Pillard) Clines and her husband Keith of Gaston, SC, and Heather Marie (Pillard) McManus and her husband Barry of Middletown, CT. Rose's spirit lives on in her grandchildren, Riley Rose McManus and Connor David McManus.

She is also survived by her brother Dieter Koss and his wife Jackie of Stuart, Florida; her sister Annetha (Koss) Lisitano and her husband Nicholas of Middletown, CT; her sister Hannelore Vierus of Rellingen, Germany; her nieces and nephews, Michelle (Koss) Foster, Deb (Koss) Dorsey, Christopher Lisitano, and Stephen Lisitano, along with numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends who lovingly called her "Mom".

Rose was predeceased by her parents, Reinhold and Martha Koss, her brother-in-law Paul Vierus, her son Mark Friedrich Pillard, and her beloved granddog, Olive Hiccup McManus.

Emigrating from Weingarten, Germany at the age of six, Rose embraced her heritage and instilled many cherished German customs in her family. She will be remembered for her exceptional cooking, her creativity in sewing and crafting, and her love of treasure hunting at tag sales. Rose's annual camping trips to Hammonasset Beach and her fondness for seafood at Johnny Ads brought her immense joy. Known as the CVS "photo lady," she formed lasting connections with her customers, always offering warmth and generosity.

Her unwavering fighting spirit, often described as her "German stubbornness", was a testament to her character. Rose was a devoted mother, determined to make the most of life for her daughters, and her legacy of love and resilience will forever remain in our hearts.

Though her passing leaves a profound void, we find comfort in the wonderful memories and traditions she created. In her honor, we invite you to gather with family and friends, play a round of rummy, setback, or Mensch argere dich nicht, enjoy a drink of Mr. Boston Blackberry Brandy, and dance to the music of Carole King and Simply Red.

Rose's spirit will continue to inspire us, reminding us to cherish each moment and celebrate life.

I had the pleasure of meeting Rose a few years back.
I have never meet an individual with such fierce determination to try to beat the cancer that slowly stole her life.
She always had such a beautiful smile, that lite the room up!
We always talked of our grandchildren and their accomplishments.
During her illness , she took the time to make baby blankets for two of my newest grand babies .
An act of kindness I will never forgot.
May you rest in peace Rose. It was an honor to have meet you

Love and Condolences to Rose´s family! I am a 1969 graduate, WWSHS, and I was lucky to meet up with Rose after High School. She and I worked at Middlesex Hospital and we would often visit at a local restaurant & bar after work. I got to know Rose really well. What a talented craftswoman and storyteller she was. Eventually, we drifted apart and I moved to New Hampshire. I am so happy that she had a wonderful life and a loving family, and I am glad that she is no longer in pain. Rest in Peace, Rose

This is a photo of Rose that is in our Woodrow Wilson Senior High School year book, class of 1969. I remember Rose's smile, her soft spoken ways and her warmth. She and I were friends and I will always cherish her memory. We graduated together and she attended our 50th class reunion in October of 2019. Her courage and Grace were so profound that I was humbled. Christopher Andrews and she came together. I was so incredibly Happy that Chris nudged her to come. sometimes God puts people in your life that will influence and be a Blessing, and that's exactly who Rose was. Her legacy for her family and friends is and will be everlasting. Thank you Rose for being you and showing me what Grace and Dignity are.

I was one of the many people that called her "mom". I truly considered her my second mother. I was welcomed into her home and even at family events. My love of food, cooking, gardening, and canning came from her. Mom, you will always hold a special place in my heart. I love you and miss.
