Rudolf (Rudy) Bredenbeck

Rudolf (Rudy) Bredenbeck, 85, of Sagamore Hills, Ohio, passed away on May 5, 2016 after a long, hard, valiant battle with cancer.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Shirley; sons, Wayne (Lora) and Kurt; daughter, Julie (Robert) BredenbeckCorp; granddaughters, Hanna and Bailey BredenbeckCorp; brother, William; and cousin, Herman (Joy) Bredenbeck.

Rudy was born on January 5, 1931 in Brooklyn Village, Ohio, to Richard and Martha Bredenbeck. He graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1949 as Valedictorian and was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 1993. He competed in football and track and field while at Brooklyn H.S. Rudy graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1954 with a Mechanical Engineering degree. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and Pi Tau Sigma Mechanical Engineering Honorary and competed in track and field (shot put and long jump) while at UC. It was at UC where Rudy met his future wife, Shirley. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956, working in radio maintenance.

Rudy then worked at Teledyne Efficient Industries for 35 years, serving as President and Chairman for 18 years. He was National President of the National Tooling and Machining Association as well as President of the Cleveland Chapter.

Rudy enjoyed spending time with Shirley at both their homes in Sagamore Hills and Fort Myers, while pursuing his many hobbies, the most significant ones being gardening and sports. He raised and exhibited dahlias, roses and orchids, and served as President of both the Dahlia Society of Ohio and the Men's Garden Club of Greater Cleveland. Rudy competed in Masters Track and Field in the shot put, discus, javelin and weight throws. He was inducted into the inaugural class of the Ohio Senior Olympics Hall of Fame in 2007 as well as inducted into the Over the Hill Track Club Hall of Fame in 2008.

Rudy was also an avid golfer.

A grave site ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 28 at 11 a.m. at Northfield-Macedonia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salvation Army, 2507 East 22nd St., Cleveland, OH 44115.
