Don and Denise Terry are extremely grateful for the kindness and pleasures their daughters, Elizabeth, Meghan, and Amy received from their K-T-1 classroom at Sidwell Friends. It is wonderful to see photos of her energy and engagement in her later years. Love to the family.

I only know Betsey through stories from AJ over the last 20 or so years and what an amazing and lovely person she was. Thanks for sharing a beautiful tribute.

I loved Betsey from the moment I met her at the UUSA. Her smile was infectious. She was very supportive when I was President of the Board, sharing history, being positive, while also asking tough questions and being realistic. Beyond that, she was interested in me personally and my life with my wife Margaret. I only wish I had known her longer. What a gift she was.

Betsey was my mother´s closest friend. I spent many happy times with her, including New Year´s Eve when she always cooked something delicious, book discussions, shared birthday celebrations including time in Siesta Key and so much more. I always looked forward to that warm smile and upbeat personality. How fortunate I was to know her

"Mrs. Johnson" as she was known to us "kids" in Bethesda, was one of my closest friends, Emily's mom. Emily and I each think we spent more time at the other's house, and in my version of things, I spent a LOT of time at the Johnson home. I knew the Johnson family and with my time there came a healthy amount of time with Mrs. Johnson. She was always kind, thoughtful, interested and interesting.
When I went away to college, I had the great fortune to get to know her parents who lived near me in S. Amherst. They frequently spoke of their daughter, Betsey, and told me lots of stories about her early life there. I got to know her in an entirely different way. Her parents and their lovely home in S. Amherst became quite special to me. It was very important to me to have them in my life and the Johnson (Macleod) family continued to weave through my life.
I last visited with Betsey in June 2024 when my husband I were traveling through the Amherst area. We had to stop in and see her and Emily. She was bright, engaging, tracked our conversation well and showed great interest in meeting my husband and hearing about our lives. For a woman in her 90's I was quite impressed.
It was tender to say bye to her, knowing it was likely the last time I'd be seeing her. She acted like she sensed that, too. I was able to tell her I loved her and thanked her for everything. "Mrs. Johnson" aka Betsey, was a part of my life for almost 60 years! She will be missed. I send my love to Andrew, Sara, Emily, Jeff and Mark... I'm so sorry for your loss... May her memory be an inspiration.

Betsey was one of my Mom's best friends and the surrogate Mom I went to when I played at her house. She was so caring, smart and interesting. Later she became my role model of someone who stayed an active, life learner her whole life.
