Ruth Marie Knight

Ruth Marie Knight, 75, of Stanardsville, departed this life on Sunday, July 1, 2012, at Martha Jefferson Hospital and was welcomed home by her heavenly father. She was born on March 30, 1937, the daughter of the late Manis and Susie Collier Shifflett.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her special angels, an infant granddaughter, "Baby Knight"; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren who Grandma Ruth is now singing to in heavens rocking chair. Ruth attended Sandy Bottom Pentecostal Church, where she was faithful in serving the Lord. She retired from Siemen Industries after many years of service. In recent years she provided childcare to many young people that come to know and love her as "Nanny". She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many. She enjoyed her flowers, singing, as well as cooking for family and friends. Ruth leaves to cherish her memory her husband and best friend of 56 years, Ellis Thurman Knight; her two sons, Wayne Knight and his wife, Judy, and James "Jim" Knight and his wife, Terri, of Stanardsville; two daughters, Glenda Faye Williams and her husband, Dale, and Reba Knight of Stanardsville; four grandchildren, Phillip Knight and his wife, Sarah, of Elkton, Sabrina Knott and her husband, Allen, of Stanley, Travis Williams and his fianc‚e, Shannon McCann, of Barboursville, and Dustin Knight of Stanardsville; five great-grandchildren, Sidnee Faith and Jadon Wayne Knight, Alyssa Mae Knott, Bricen Dale Williams, and Jackson Storm McCann; four brothers, Rudolph Shifflett and his wife JoAnn, Elwood Shifflett and his wife Evelyn "Jo Ann", Nathan Shifflett and his wife Evelyn, Haywood Shifflett and his wife Anne; one sister Flarntine Raines, all of Stanardsville; devoted friends Edwin "Buzzy" & Mabel Deane; and "Nanny" to Jennifer Bishop, Jo Jo Shifflett, Logan Rath, and Will Shifflett; and a multitude of nieces and nephews and many other devoted friends.

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. Psalms 116:15

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Wednesday July 4, 2012, at Preddy Funeral Home in Madison with Pastor Eddie Deane, Brother Phillip Knight, and Brother Allen Knott officiating.
