RUTH O'HARE Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 2, 2015.
Ruth M. (Boyd, Hartwell) O'Hare Born July 13, 1923 in Tacoma, WA to Frank and Christina Boyd; passed away on November 27, 2015 to be reunited with the love of her life, Matthew O'Hare. Ruthie graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of '41. Together, she and Matt created a home in a park-like setting that was to become the gathering place of her family, celebrating birthdays and holidays for over 40 years. Ruth is survived by her 4 children, George B. Hartwell, Stephen D. Hartwell, Christine R. Rayner, and Holly A. Hartwell, 3 grandchildren, Aaron Hartwell, Robin Eldore, and Paige Hartwell McDonnell, and 3 great-grandchildren, Keira, Aubrey, and Oscar. She met the challenges of her life with unflinching determination and always a positive attitude. Her gardening achievements were admired by all who visited, and an overflowing display of portraits throughout her home give evidence to the love of her family. Mom was ageless. She will be greatly missed and loved always. Memorial service Friday, Dec. 4, at 1:00 p.m. in the Mountain View Garden Chapel, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd SW, Lakewood, WA 98499.

It's been over a year now since you passed, Mom... we love you & miss you. God answered your prayers early in the morning on Nov 27th, 2015 as I laid beside you in bed.

I met Ruth when I became best friends with her daughter, Holly, in kindergarten. Throughout the 60 years of knowing her, she was unfailingly kind and gentle. When I lost both my parents at a young age, Ruth graciously took me under her wing as my "second mom." She had loving and generous heart and I am ever grateful to her for sharing that love with me, especially at times of crisis when she would gently offer caring and support. She knew how to live through hard times and keep her spirits hopeful--She had plenty of challenges but they never darkened her bright spirit. I will miss her spark and her kindness and the absolute sweetness of her smile. Blessings on you way, dear Ruthie! And my deep condolences to all her beautiful family. She will be missed lifelong.

Ruthie was one of the sweetest people I've ever met. I've had hours of chats with her about her rich and full life, I would get her going and she would share some of her really unique memories of growing up in Tacoma. Always willing to joke around, she was such a great companion. Her spirit had a steady gentleness that was such a big part of her presence in her family and she served as the anchor for many generations of relatives. I already miss seeing her face and am so grateful for the memories I have of her.

Chris, Holly and Family,
You were very fortunate to have a beautiful, kind, loving mother for so many years. You have wonderful memories of so many good times that your family shared. Your last Thanksgiving together is a time that you will always cherish. You will miss your mother dearly but she lives on in you and she will always be a part of you. May all those who knew her well find some peace and comfort in reflecting on all the joy she brought to them and to all those whose lives she touched. A life well lived! Patty Swanson

Holly I am so sorry for you. Losing a parent is hard but you will survive the pain if for no other reason than it is what your Mama would want.
