Ruth Tyback Obituary

SANDWICH — Ruth Marie Tyback died Monday, Oct. 4, 2010, in Sandwich after many years of failing health.

She was predeceased in March of 1997 by her beloved husband, John Tyback.

Born in Brockton on Sept. 8, 1912, she was the eldest child of Lyman and Louise Ellis.

Surviving her are two daughters, Gail Susla Homer and her husband Joe of Williamsburg, Va., and Jean McCarroll of New York City; grandchildren Ben Susla and his wife Holly of Freeport, Maine, John Susla and his wife Liz of Reston, Va., and Elizabeth Schaal of Dublin, Calif.; great-grandchildren Molly and Jake of Freeport, Maine and Caroline and Katherine Susla of Reston, Va. Ruth is also survived by her sisters, Dorothy Phelan of Sandwich and Judith Holmquist of Bridgewater; a sister-in-law, Gerry Ellis of Bridgewater; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Hazen and Ralph, and sister Doris Ellis.

Ruth was employed for many years as a secretary at Henry T. Wing school and was a longtime member of First Church of Christ in Sandwich. The family wishes to thank the Cape Heritage Nursing Center staff for their dedicated, loving care of Ruth.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at First Church of Christ, 136 Main St., Sandwich.

Memorial donations may be made to First Church of Christ, or to the John & Ruth Tyback Scholarship Fund, 130 Main St., Sandwich, MA 02563, checks payable to Treasurer, town of Sandwich.

Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dear Gail and Jean,
I was saddened to learn of you mother's passing. I have many fond memories of her, especially when I taught in Sandwich and she was the school secretary. She was a lovely lady. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you and yours.
