I placed my holiday call to Miss Ruth today to find her phone disconnected. A sinking feeling told me I was too late, as I found. Oh, Bruce and Joy and grandchildren, I cannot say how sorry I am. I’m sorry for your loss, sorry I wasn’t there for her...
She was truly unique. She was a wonderful friend and even better life coach. I worked with her at my first serious job at Schuster Concrete at the tender age of 19. I had dropped out of college, had no idea what I was going to do, not even what I wanted to do. My position was temporary in the dispatch office but thanks to Miss Ruth’s guidance became permanent. She taught me so much about integrity, attention to detail and how to be a good businesswoman. But more importantly, she taught me how to be a good person. I left Schuster after my marriage and she was the only one to keep in touch over the years. I imagined myself too busy to feed the relationship when I was younger but after my mom died in 2014, Miss Ruth called out of the blue. Until then, we had just sent cards back and forth. Her voice and her company were a tonic to my wounded spirit. I loved her very much and wish I’d had a chance to tell her. There’s an empty space in the world that I’m sure can be seen from space. However, she more than earned her happy reunion with her beloved Herb. I hope they had the Grand Ballroom ready for them. Love and prayers for you all.
