Ryan Kamps

Green Bay - On April 16, 2018, we lost our beloved son, brother and friend. Ryan Kamps, 35, passed away at his home after struggling with mental health issues. He is now freed from his pain. He was born February 23, 1983, to Daniel and Debra (Bartz) Kamps. Ryan graduated as valedictorian from Pilgrim Lutheran School and with high honors from Green Bay West High School in 2001. During his time as a Wildcat he was a member of the National Honor Society, the recipient of the Brian LaViolette Scholarship, Student of the Year, and a standout baseball and basketball player. He continued his education at the University of Wisconsin Madison, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Materials and Science Engineering after an internship at Kohler. He lived and worked in Milwaukee as a metalurgical engineer.

Ryan was passionate about current events and social issues, and always up for a lively debate. Music spoke to him in a special way. He travelled coast to coast following Phish, and spent many hours listening to his extensive vinyl collection, especially the Grateful Dead, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, the Beatles and David Bowie. His analytical mind and his love of sports melded, and he could recite the statistics for his teams, the Packers, Brewers, Badgers, and the Bucks.

He will be forever missed by his beloved companion, Miles the Boxer; his parents, Dan and Deb Kamps; his sister Megan Kamps, and her fiancé, Judd Meyers; his maternal grandparents, Lois and Ervin Bartz; uncles and aunts, Mike and Carolyn Kamps, Vicky Bartz and Scott Bohm; Julie Bartz and Chuck Raasch; Don and Chris Bartz; many cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Robert and Laverne Kamps; and an uncle, Douglas Bartz.

Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St. A Celebration of His Life will take place at 7:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Scott Malme officiating. To send online condolences visit www.prokowall.com. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund has been established for the Boxer Animal Rescue, and to benefit mental health issues.

Today, a heart continues to beat, eyes regain the power of sight, a burn victim heals, and someone is able to run because of Ryan's gift of organ donation.

I am so very sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in how Ryan was ever so compassionate and more than understanding for me a couple years ago. My daughter was Miless dog walker and suddenly had a crisis in her life that required her moving from Milwaukee back home with us to work through this. In my conversations with Ryan informing him that she could no longer take care of Miles, his compassion was evident.
