Ryan Vollmer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 11 to Jan. 13, 2017.
RYAN JAMES VOLLMER Ryan James Vollmer, 44 years of age, passed on 19 December 2016 due to a tragic accident. Ryan's dear friends and loving family will remember him always for his loving and adventurous spirit and the vitality he expressed in the living of his life. Ryan was born in Santa Barbara to his mother Terri Ingham (nee Fortier) and father Allen Vollmer. Ryan is survived by his mother and stepfather Mike, both formerly of Hydesville; his father and stepmother Linda both of McKinleyville. He is also survived by sisters: Shelley Ingham formerly of Hydesville and Jennifer Alto (nee Vollmer) of Arcata; in addition, his stepsisters: Heather Houx and Holli Kidd (nee Houx) both formerly of Arcata. Ryan will also be missed by many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Ryan's death was preceded by his beloved grandparents: Florien and Lee Fortier of Long Beach and Fred and Janet Vollmer of Santa Barbara. Ryan went to Hydesville Elementary, where he formed a life-long friendship with Kelly Patton. He moved on to Fortuna High, where he excelled in football and went on to play in many championship games. After high school, Ryan worked at various jobs in Humboldt County. He later decided to join his mother's family in Long Beach to pursue his dream of going to college there. Ryan attended Long Beach City College and through the support of family and the mentorship of the college dean, he thrived. In this environment he went on to become student body president and received LBCC's highest honor, the prestigious Viking Award. After completing his lower division coursework, he transferred to USC, where he graduated with a major in Public Finance and a minor in Business. Ryan's rising career took him to many places including San Francisco, Santa Barbara and Los Angeles and he was excited to be working at Morgan-Stanley. We all are going to miss him so very much. For his memory, we request that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to: Long Beach City College Foundation, 4901 E. Carson St. B12, Long Beach, CA 90808 attn: In memory of Ryan Vollmer. Still missing you so very much, Ry... I miss your contagious smile, the little things that you'd do to make others feel special, and the thoughtful way you always remembered to wish me happy birthday each year even when you were busy. I have fond memories of when we first met while going to LBCC, going to the beach, and so many other special memories. You were so genuine & selfless. I miss our playful banter of who was a bigger brat. You will always hold a place in my heart. Till we meet again... love you.

My heart still hurts for you Ryan! :( I miss you everyday. Thank you for the beautiful memories we shared together.. All those late night Taco Bell adventures back in 1998-99 ;-) I still remember exactly where we were when you played that beautiful song by Dido Thank You in your car and sang it to me. You will forever live in my heart! ❤ I love you always and forever.

I am devastated to learn of Ryan's death. He was a class act. Fun to be around and ever-personable. Always a smile on his face. His contributions to the CA Community College system were many. His knowledge and expertise in finance facilitated colleges across the state to pass and to utilize hundreds of millions of dollars in local bond measures.
Colleges have used these bond monies to improve facilities and enhance student success. Ryan's work in this arena is particularly significant considering his start was at a community college. We will miss him. I will miss him. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

In my first years teaching at Hydesville I remember Ryan well. He had a beautiful smile, a playful demeanor, and was a great role model for the younger students. My condolences for your loss, Sincerely, Miss Joanie Hartman

Ryan was a fine young man who had a great future in store for him. It is very difficult to imagine how such a loss can be understoood. The Vollmer family was justifiably very proud of their son, their grief must be unimaginable. Words cannot describe our sympathy for their loss. May you in some way find comfort in knowing you raised a very special son. Our love to all the family. Ron and Orbie
