SALLY BAILEY Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 21, 2023.
Sally Louise Bailey, 68, of Tacoma, WA, passed away on April 20, 2023, in Seattle, WA. Sally was born on October 29, 1954, in Tacoma, WA to William and Kathryn Bailey. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Elizabeth Bailey.

Her surviving family members include sisters Jeanne Tombarge, Kathy Evans, Mary Bailey, Peggy Heatherly, and brothers William Jr., Mike, Tom, and Jim Bailey, and the light of her life, her stepdaughter Troya Capers.

Sally was a brilliant, clever, funny, intuitive, inquisitive, and passionate person who cared deeply about political and social issues. Her friends also described her as caring and generous to a fault. Sally was a friend of Bill and Bob from the age of 23, and she helped numerous people get and stay on the road to sobriety.

In 2014, Sally led a group of volunteers to create the SE Seattle Tool Library, a lending library and small workshop space where members can borrow over 2500 tools for their home, yard, woodworking, and auto projects. Her last act of generosity was to donate her house to A Sacred Passing, an organization whose mission is to guide and assist people towards a more conscious dying experience.

Sally was a CPA, and initially worked as a government auditor. Because of her heart for helping others, she worked for several nonprofits, including HopeLink, Catholic Community Services, Seattle-King County Council on Alcoholism, Sexual Assault Resource Center, and Seattle Girls' School.

No services will be held per Sally's request. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to A Sacred Passing at asacredpassing.org or the Southeast Seattle Tool Library at https://setools.org/about-us/.

When I look back on my years at Aquinas, I think of Sally. Sally was warm spirited and kind. She sang and brought records into our senior lounge. (We were not allowed to listen "wild, influential music" at home. So thru Sally my senior experience was great. I spoke with her a couple of years ago, in Spain. I am sad to hear this news and know with confidence Sally is tearing it up in Heaven

Your favorite poetry line " flowers cast no scent behind" has two perspectives: the experiencer in the moment and the absence after the glorious moment. Can´t know from your side Sal. But from the behind side Sal, it´s untrue. You were: the best story teller I ever met (better even than your Dad); brilliant; always the funniest most entertaining person in a group; and you were oh so very complicated. Your essence, it´s influence and its impact are still in this world-everywhere.

I´ll remember you with such love for the rest of my days. In some mysteriously unknown way to me, I hope you feel that love and the love and admiration of so many others. That you were widely loved and admired is so real and true; it always was.
