Sally Flynn Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 18, 2019.
Sally Flynn PENNINGTON Sally Flynn of Pennington, NJ died suddenly, April 13, 2019. Born in Stamford, CT, she was raised in Douglaston, NY. She began a dance career as Sally Willis, touring the country as part of a dance team and working in stock theater productions. She went on to Broadway and worked with Bob Fosse in Damn Yankees where she met her husband, the late Joe Flynn. Sally left performing to raise a family in Trenton, NJ but never left dance, teaching at Dance Spectrum in West Windsor and Glen Roc Dance Studios in Ewing. She continued to study in Princeton and NYC returning to the stage in 1979 with the touring company of Ballroom. After years of dance, Sally found a new avenue of artistic expression in the garden. In 1995 she graduated with the second class of the Rutgers Master Gardeners of Mercer County. She was an active member and worked for many years as part of the team that maintained the gardens at Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ. Her own gardens gave her much joy and needed outlet for her energy and creativity. Her life was enhanced by an ever present love of cats which she shared with her mother and her daughter. Her little cat, Magic, now lives with her granddaughter. Sally is survived by her four children, John and his wife Betty, Kevin and his wife Patti, Tim and his wife Lorraine and Teri and her husband Andy Ryan; her six grandchildren, Brittany, Jessica, Katherine, Jack, Joseph and Banan and her many cherished friends who will miss her dearly.

I was going through boxes of photos and clippings my parents had from Theater-in-the-Park and found some of your folks and wondered if any of the FLynn's were still in NJ. (Dad Johnny, died in 2016, Mom, Patti last year) I am donating tons of photos and programs to the Trenton Library. Chris Coucill, who remembers more than I do, said he'll help them name people in the photos. I thought you all might be interested. So glad your mom got to enjoy her life off stage as well as on! Peace and blessings-

Hard to believe! Sally was always there, her kindness and insight, her support of those around her. It is hard to imagine the Master Gardeners of Mercer County without her. My deepest condolences.

So sad to hear of Sally's passing. With her lovely smile and great sense of humor, she could always brighten up anyone's day! She always exuded great warmth and compassion and could make friends with anyone. She immediately became one of my favorite people. She was a well loved, enthusiastic member of our Master Gardener group and she will be greatly miss. My sincere condolences to her family and many friends.

Somehow it seemed Sally would always be with us. Her death is a shock and great loss of a loved friend and wonderful co-worker - beautiful, witty, creative, hard working, straight shooter, kind and generous.

So sorry to lose Sally. She was an asset as a Master Gardener.
