Sally Metcalf Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 13, 2024.
Sally Ann (Lafreniere) Metcalf passed away peacefully at her home in Eagle Point, Oregon, on Sunday, October 6, 2024. Sally was a loving mother, grandmother, partner, and sister, both biological and chosen. She was wise and thoughtful and she had a passion for life that was always evident in her spunk. Her spirituality was well known by all who knew her. Sally was compassionate and it showed in her charity and selflessness. She was always willing to give. She was environmentally and politically active and an avid defender of social justice. She was a wonderful rebel and everyone's favorite hippie.

Sally attended Pinehurst Elementary School and Westfield High School in the place of her birth, Westfield, Massachusetts. Sally moved to the west coast and lived in Oregon for over thirty years. She had a long career at Harry and David in Medford where she worked for twenty plus years.

Her hobbies included gardening, music, reading, hot tubbing under the stars at her home in the mountains, as well as spending time with family and friends. She especially loved RV trips to Bashford, California and around the country with her beloved Tom. In addition, she treasured adventures with her chosen sisters, for over thirty years, to the coast of Oregon every Mother's Day weekend where she was affectionately known as Metcraft for her lack of interest in crafts.

Sally is survived by the love of her life and partner in crime for over 20 years, Thomas Hailey of Eagle Point, Oregon, and her three children: Cheryl Tucker and

her husband Newell of Brunswick, Maine, Erin Thorn and her husband Rick of Medford, Oregon, and Steven Kotarski of Florida. She also leaves five grandchildren and one great grandchild. She has many extended family members that she loved and cared for. She is also survived by four sisters, two brothers and many nieces and nephews. Sally was predeceased by her parents, one younger sister and brother, and her second husband.

The day before Sally died she participated in the Asante Foundation Walk for Hope in Medford, Oregon. She was incredibly proud of this organization and the work that they do to help cancer patients in the community. If you would like to honor Sally please consider making a donation in her name to: https://asantefoundation.org/donate/

You can also honor Sally by making sure you use your voice and VOTE in this year's presidential election. It is important to note that Sally was a passionate supporter of the Kamala Harris campaign and we know that she will be grateful to all who vote and use their voice to ensure our country is in good hands moving forward.

Sally's life will be celebrated in the spring of 2025 at her home where loved ones will be invited to honor and celebrate her by working in her garden and maintaining this living memorial. Details will be shared at a later date.

Sally will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

My deepest condolences go out to Sally's loved ones. I was blessed to know her for ~30+ years and she was truly a lovely person. She was one of my mom's closest friends and l will always think very fondly of the two of them sharing communion together as sisters, along with so many others. The world is a better place that she was here. May she rest in peace.

I am heartbroken to hear of Sally´s passing. My heart felt condolences to Tom and her children. I cherish the memories of our trip to Bumbershoot and many other concerts, dancing and singing. She was a loyal friend and a very strong woman who I admired and loved. Dance on, dear Sister. Tell Shannon, Carol, Chris,David, and Hutch hello for me.

The talks we had about ex´s, current and former husbands and partners. We laughed out loud and cried out loud. No topic was ever off the table. I will forever hold a special place in my heart for Sally Ann Met-craft. Missing her so much already

Sally was like another mother to me when I was younger. After leaving Oregon we all lost touch for a while, but the love was still there.

In loving memory of a wonderful sister. You will be in my heart always and forever. We had such a great time when we met up in Vegas where she danced to the song of ride Sally ride.

When I was in high school I wanted to be an artist but I knew that I wasn´t good enough to make a living at it. My parents refused to help me get into college because "the only reason a girl goes to college is to find a husband!". But Sally convinced me that I would make a great nurse and even knew how I could afford to do it on my own. Today I am retired after a career of 48 years as a nurse!! Because Sally believed in me, she was my biggest cheerleader at the time!! Sally and I became especially close since her diagnosis 4 years ago. She fought long and hard and in the end she passed the way she wanted to, at home with Tom. Rest In Peace gentle soul....ever onward......

Sally was my eldest sister, I don´t have a lot of memories as a young child but as a young adult we shared a lot. She was the one that suggested and encouraged me to go to nursing school after our parents refused to help me to go to college. You see, they believed that the only reason a girl went to college was to find a man! Sally and I became particularly close over the last few years and I will mill her terribly. Ever onward.............
