In Loving Memory of Sally Williams-Ackley

Beloved Wife, Mother, Sister, Grandmother, and Friend

With broken hearts, we share the devastating news that our beloved mother passed away on June 6th, 2025. She was the heart of our family - the source of our joy, laughter, and strength - and the world feels dimmer without her radiant presence.

If you knew Sally, you know she was joy personified. She radiated kindness, empathy, warmth, and grace. Her laughter was contagious, she smiled with her whole face and it lit up every room, and her love knew no bounds. Whether it was her unwavering support, quick wit, or gentle understanding, she made everyone feel welcome and deeply seen.

Sally was born in Rochester, Indiana in 1952, but has called Oregon home since the early 1970's. She met the love of her life, Daryl Ackley, 52 years ago. They were married for 50 beautiful years and shared a partnership full of devotion, laughter, dancing, and road trips. She was an amazing dancer, a spelling expert, and a lover of all things beautiful and fun - art, music, board games, gardens, birds, babies, and a good movie. She cherished phone calls with her sisters, a good joke, and the everyday joys of life.

Above all, Sally loved her family, and loved nothing more than time with her family. She is survived by her husband Daryl and their cat, Betty; her daughter Maya; her son Sam, his wife Rebecca, and their son Oliver - Sally's only and deeply cherished grandchild; Maya's recently departed dog Rizzo, and Sam, Rebecca and Oliver's dog Charlie, whom Sally adored as her "grand-dogs".

She is also survived by her sister Irene (Renee) Brunet; her sister Mary Kovatch, Mary's husband Bob and their son Michael (spouse Gratia and their children); and her brother Dave Williams and his wife Sonia, along with their children Mackenzie (spouse Jaclyn and their children) and Madeline Hill (spouse Jared).

Sally was preceded in death by her beloved brother Chris, whom she missed deeply, and now joins in peace.

To know Sally was to be loved by her. She was Mom, Wife, Sister, Gangy, Mother-in-Law, Sister-In-Law, Aunt, Great Aunt, Doggie Grandma, and dear Friend to so many. She leaves behind countless friends and loved ones who were touched by her grace, generosity, and humor. We hope those who saw her smile and heard her laugh will hold both in their hearts forever.

A celebration of Sally's life will be held soon, and we will share details the moment they are available. You can make a donation in her name to one of her favorite causes--she would love that--and feel free to share thoughts and stories with those who knew her...or even those who missed out on the gift of knowing her.

You are the heart of everything.

We will love you forever, Mom / Gangy / Sal.

We will never be the same.

To the Ackley Clan: I'm so sorry for what you must be going through! I wish I could reach out and hug each of you right now. I would love to have a chance to hug Sally right now also. The only memories I have of her were similar to those shared by others: her smile, laughter, joy of life, and, if I'm being honest, her jokes (my favorites). I still remember one that she told me as a teenager, but it wouldn't be appropriate to repeat here. But I remember laughing for so long on so many, that I can't think of any memories where there wasn't constant laughter. I'm posting a photo my mom took after a lunch the three of us had in Medford while I was on leave decades ago. It was on one of those relatively few occasions where I made her laugh instead of the other way around. And that's what my mom captured. Laughter and joy! We'll miss you Sally!

While I never had the privilege of meeting Sally in person, I was lucky enough to exchange a few messages with her-and even through text, her warmth and light were undeniable. As a friend of her beloved daughter Maya, I´ve witnessed just how deeply she was cherished and how fiercely she loved in return. Her joy in her family, her grandchildren (including the furry ones), and the life she created radiates in every story Maya has shared. The legacy she leaves behind-especially in her children-will continue to shine. Sending peace, love, and my deepest condolences to all who love her.

All the SlackFests were the best especially the ones that I attended in the 80´s. One trip to one on the coast involved an impromptu Chinese Firedrill when the new hit Funky Cold Medina came on the radio. We laughed so hard and had a tremendous time that weekend. More was never enough.
