Sam HOSHIZAKI Obituary
July 7, 1935 - August 12, 2013
It is with overwhelming sadness that the family of Dr. Sam Hoshizaki announce his passing on August 12, 2013 at the age of 78 years. At his side were his loving wife of 50 years, Joyce, and his two sons, David and Brent.
Sam was born in Vernon, B.C. He grew up in Kelowna and graduated from Kelowna Sr. High School in 1953. Sam graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Alberta in 1965, and then completed his post-graduate residency in Orthodontics at the University of Indiana in Indianapolis in 1967.
He returned to Edmonton and set up a solo practice in the Tegler Bldg. and then went into a group practice with Drs. Ron Mullen and Jack Little establishing Empire Orthodontics. Sam retired from practice in 1996 and turned his attention to traveling, golf, and escaping Edmonton winters in Arizona.
Sam is survived by his wife Joy and sons David (Jacqueline) of Edmonton and Brent (Janice) of Vancouver, and his adoring granddaughters, Samantha and Tora in Edmonton and Jocelyn and Cara in Vancouver, and his brother William (Dori) of Kelowna. Predeceased by his parents, and sisters Toyo and Tomi and brother Norman.
His kind and generous spirit will be forever remembered by all who knew him.
In Celebration of his Life, a Memorial Service will be held at Beulah Alliance Church, 17504 - 98A Avenue on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sam's name to White Fields Missionary Society of Canada.

You may not remember me but I was in Sam's dental class of 1965. We lived in the McKernan area and walked to school together a great number of times. Sam was always sage in his advice to me as I was 7 years younger and somewhat impulsive. I always admired him, and although we saw each other infrequently during my Calgary years, we always had great visits when we did. Again, my condolences on the passing of a gentle and generous gentleman.

It was our sincere pleasure to attend Dr.Sam Hoshizaki's funeral. Learning about this incredible man truly touched our hearts and made us reevaluate the life we are living .
Dr. Hoshizaki's life is a great example for all to emulate. Even in his death he will continue to be a role model for us as we decide which steps to take along this path of our lives.
You are truly blessed to have had such a wonderful guide in your life.

To all of the Hoshizaki family, I send my deepest condolences. Sam (or Dr. Hoshizaki as I always called him, even as an adult) was like an uncle to Travis, Erin and I while growing up.
