Samuel Dixie Obituary

Samuel Lee Dixie Sr. Samuel Lee Dixie Sr., 85, a custodian for the U.S. Postal Service, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Laura Thompson Dixie. The service will be at 11 a.m. EST Saturday at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, with burial at Southside Cemetery. Strong & Jones Funeral Home (850-224-2139) is handling arrangements. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1942 and is a veteran of the U.S. Army and World War II. He completed the vocational carpentry program at Florida A&M University. He was a dedicated member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a past chairman of the Trustees Board. He also was a member of the National Associatin of Colored People and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Other survivors include two sons, Samuel L. Dixie II (and wife Thelma) and Duane Dixie, both of Tallahasee; a daughter, Bettye Belinfantie, of Tallahassee; a brother, the Rev. A.I. Dixie (and wife Joeva) of Quincy; 11 grandchildren, Samuel L. Dixie III, Lacaria Dixie, Johnaia Duncan (and husband John), Fannita Dixie, Sandi Hall (and husband Reginald), Terick McMillan, all of Tallahassee, John Henry Dixson Jr. (and wife Janice) of Havana, Ermita Metoyer (and husband Edward) of San Diego, Calif., and Tamara Carswell (and husband Rico), Yolanda Hill-Johnson (and husband Kevin) and Derrick Dixie (and wife Charise), all of Tampa; 22 great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends including, Inez Williams, Marie Thomas and Lucille Martin; and a daughter-in-law, Ethel Dixie of Tampa.

Dear Cousin Laura,

I sincerely hope that the loss of Samuel will not lessen your resolve to be strong and determined

to continue with the remaining years of your life. Samuel would want that for you.



Sam's loss was a shock to me, and I am sure that the same goes for his family. So again ... you have my deepest sympathy, and I'm here if you need me.
