Samuel Eubanks Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 30, 2023.
Samuel Eubanks's life came to an end with his death on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at the age of 67. Born on April 5, 1956 in Houston, Texas, he lived in Johnson City throughout his childhood and graduated from Johnson City High School in 1974. After paying his own way through college, he earned his Bachelor's degree at Texas A&M University in 1980 and was a proud Aggie for the remainder of his life. After marrying, he and Evie lived briefly in Midland, Texas and worked for Merrill Lynch before moving to Dallas. Sam worked for IBM and Splunk for many years and was also a basketball referee. Sam's pride was in his role as father to his sons, grandfather to his grandkids, and as a loving husband.

He is survived by his wife, Evie, his three sons, Donald, Russell, and Tommy, his six beautiful grandchildren, Evelyn, Parker, Oliver, Kennedy, Elsie, and Ronin. He is also survived by his mother, Geneva, brother Russell, and sister Brenda.

Sam and Evie were married for 43 years and their life together reminds us that the most important thing we can do with our time is spend it with family. He was generous with his time and would spend as much of it as he could with his beloved grandchildren; weekends, holidays, vacations...he would even drive by their homes on his way into the office for a chance to see them before work! He was kind, gentle, adventurous, and hard working. In his free time he loved flying planes, exercise, gardening, and appreciating nature.

Sam had an incredible charisma and wisdom that made everyone want to be around him. We love him immensely and we miss him more than any words could ever express.

Services will be held Friday, September 1, 2023 at Aria Cremation & Funeral Home in Dallas, TX at 4pm. Beach attire is requested.

Sam believed strongly in blood donation and had made 128 donations totaling over 16 gallons! In lieu of flowers, the family asks you donate blood, if possible, with Carter Blood Care in his honor.

A few years ago I flew to Dallas to attend a NASCAR race with Sam. He picked me up at the airport, we went to the race and had a fun day together.

What happened on the way back, however, is what I remember most about the day. The airport was really crowded and parking spaces were scarce. After searching for a few minutes Sam pulls into a loading zone and told me he´d be out before anyone would object (tow his car). We went inside and Sam buys each of us a burger. As he is taking the first bite he stopped and loudly shouted that he was parked illegally and needed to move his car. He dropped his burger and took off running. He returned in about 15 minutes . He was able to find another spot before getting towed.

We finished our meal and visited a while, and then each headed home.

Sam was as good a person as you could ever meet and a true friend!

We are truly sorry to hear about Sammy's passing away. I was one of his classmates way back when we lived in Johnson City. He was always had a good sense of humor, not a mean bone in him. I will miss texting year to year. At least now he is not suffering but is asleep for a long time. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his mom, his wife, and the rest of his family.

Sam was great friend and mentor. I enjoyed working with him and looked forward to our weekly conversations. He was always happy and you could tell that joy for life came from his family, which we spoke about often. I will miss him immensely. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I only met Sam in person once, but boy was it a treat. We sat next to each other at a work dinner and we shared many laughs while getting to know each other. My first impression was that he is a warm and memorable person, who sheds kindness on everyone he meets. My thoughts and prayers go out to his beautiful family.

As an avid blood donor myself, and a believer in the cause, I will be dedicating my next pint to Sam!

Sam was the only other weird dude I would catch at the Splunk office gym on a Friday. I'll get a good one in this Friday for both of us!

When I first started at Splunk, I was new to the processes and needed help with a task after hours. Even though Sam was not on my team, he was more than willing to help and chat for a few minutes. He had an amazing soul and always had a smile on his face. He had a positive impact on everyone he encountered.
My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Sam and I worked together at Splunk for my entire 8 1/2 years here. He was always one of my favorites, making me feel seen, appreciated and respected. I looked forward to catching up with him when I was in the Plano office. He was special, and cared for by many Splunkers. He will be missed.

Sam and I met in Midland through his brother Russell in the summer of 1978 while he was home for the summer from A&M. We soon became friends and were in each others weddings in the early 80's. We lost touch for years but reconnected a few years ago and I'm so thankful we did. Here is a pic from April 5 of this year w/ Sam and Tommy and Russell at a Ranger's game. That was a great evening. Sam was a good friend and a great dad who was proud of his family - rightly so. We will miss him. Many happy memories of his friendship. Our prayers are with Evie and your family.
