On Tuesday, December 14, 2021, Samuel ‘Sam’ Hardy Rainey, a loving father, and brother, passed away at age 73.
Sam was born on July 14, 1948, in Gainesville, Texas to Faye and Richard Rainey. In March of 1968, he enlisted in the Navy as a hospital man and later served in the Vietnam War. He attended school at Texas A&M University and earned his degree in veterinary medicine in 1980. He practiced in Denton for 38 years before retiring in May 2018.
Although Sam enjoyed fishing, riding his motorcycle, and all things cooking or grilling; his greatest love was spending time with his family. A good book, strumming on his guitar, and a good glass of scotch were things he appreciated. Sam was happiest when surrounded by those he loved, people and animals alike.
Sam is preceded in death by his parents, and his favorite German Shepherds Herrman, Rommel, and Czech. He is survived by his three daughters: Tammy Kelly, Autumn Rainey, Ashley Fauber, four grandchildren (Hunter Kelly, Adelia Bristol, Samuel and Andrew Rainey), and grand-dog, Mac. He is also survived by two great grandchildren Hudson and Charlotte Bristol, and his sisters Jan Kirkwood and Mary Rainey.
A memorial service will be held at Saint David’s Episcopal Church in Denton, on Saturday January 8, 2022, at 11AM with reception to follow. Sam will be interred at the DFW National Cemetery at a later date.
I lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: North Texas Patriot Guard Riders, Linda McNatt Animal Care and Adoption Center, or the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

We are so sad to hear of Dr. Rainey's passing and send our deepest sympathies to all his family. Dr. Rainey was our vet for years until his retirement. We admired his practical, common sense when treating our cats. His sister, Mary, who helped him in his work, was a jewel in his crown and we admired all of her help, too. May God give you all His peace and comfort. Jan and Dan Peak

Dr. Rainey was such a great and caring man. We met him when he started taking care of Banzai. He always said that Banzai was one of his fav lil Japanese Chins he’d ever see. It was always a pleasure to see Dr. Rainey. Rest In Peace.
