Sandra Fitts Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 22, 2024.
A Service to Celebrate the Life of Sandra Lynn Hill Fitts was held held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 24th at First Baptist Church of Corinth with Brother Dennis Smith and Jennifer Jefcoat officiating.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, Tuesday, July 23.

Sandra passed on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at her home in Corinth, MS under the loving care of her daughter, Lynn. She was born September 22, 1939, in Oxford, MS. Sandra grew up in Oxford and met her husband Gene when they were seniors in high school at a student council conference. They were married after a two-year courtship on August 23rd, 1959.

Sandra was a full-time mom and homemaker from the time of their marriage and the birth of their first child and was also always very active in her church. Gene and Sandra were members of First Baptist Church in Corinth, MS after moving to Corinth in 1974 from Columbus, MS. Sandra was best known at First Baptist as the 'no nonsense' church librarian where she actively served for over 45 years in that role. She loved reading and sharing that love with others. She also served the Baptist Association by teaching others how to be librarians in their home churches. She loved reading the bible and started her morning each day with her daily devotional and prayer list.

Sandra was fortunate to be able to travel to Europe and abroad with Gene during his career and always enjoyed experiencing new places. They were able to share this experience with their children with trips to England, Europe, and Brazil. When Gene passed away in 2017, Sandra said, "we weren't done yet" and continued to enjoy traveling to Florida and even Mexico with her children. She was kayaking, snorkeling and zip lining well into her late 70's with her "crazy daughter" Tracy.

Sandra Lynn Hill Fitts is survived by her loving children, Britt Alan and his wife Sonia Fernandes Fitts of Oxford, MS and Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, two daughters, Lynn Fitts Galvan of Corinth with her husband Marcelino Galvan, and Tracy Fitts King and her husband Stephen King also of Corinth, MS and her loyal companion Kaylee the cat.

Sandra was fondly known as 'Gran' by Britt's children Bradley Fitts, Andrea Fitts and Carey Fitts (Mikaela) and 'Nana' by Lynn's children, Emily Jones and her husband Dane of Texas and Shelby Sewell of Corinth. "Gran" adored her great grandchildren, Andrea's and Craig Goodwin's children, Brayleigh, Aubrey, Chloe and Asher Goodwin and Bradley Fitts and Juana Velez's son Damion Aldrich. "Nana" also dearly adored Emily's precious sons, Gabe and Walker. She was also dearly loved by Shelby's brother, Anthony Skelton; Bradley, Andrea and Carey's mother, Patricia Crocker Farrar and Emily's dad Tom Sewell. Other loving family include her sister Deidra Hill Davis and Malcolm Davis of Jackson, MS, and many cousins.

A special thank you from the family goes to Mrs. Sandra's caregivers in the last few months, Jessica Sumrall, Nellie Bush and Brandy Harris, as well as Lynn and Anthony. She was well loved and taken care of in her declining days dealing with Alzheimer's.

Sandra was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene "Gene" Webster Fitts and her parents, William Clarence Hill and Carrie Sybil Metts Hill of Oxford, MS.

Pall bearers are her grandsons, Brad and Carey Fitts, son in law Marcelino Galvan, and loving family members, Damion Aldrich, Anthony Skelton, and Craig Goodwin.

Honorary Pallbearers are Stephen King, Tom Sewell, Dane Jones, Jessica Sumrall, Brandy Harris and Nellie Bush.

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to First Baptist Church Library, Corinth, MS; Yellow Leaf Baptist Church, Oxford, MS Cemetery fund, Southern Puppy Rescue ([email protected]), and Havis' Kids of Corinth.
