Sandra Hirsh Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 6 to Apr. 7, 2023.
Sandra W. Hirsh died on April 3, 2023 at her home in West Palm Beach, Florida, with her husband and family at her side. Surviving are her husband and lifelong best friend, Robert J. Hirsh, and their two children, Amy Guarino (Matt) of Danville, California and Beth Lettengarver (Michael) of Hobe Sound, Florida. Surviving also are their three grandchildren, Rob Guarino, Matthew (Katie) Guarino and AJ Lettengarver. Sandy was born in East Syracuse, New York, the daughter of John Witz and Eletha Witz. She was one of four siblings including Patricia, Linda and Tim. Linda and Tim survive her.

Sandy and Bob knew each other as children and dated in high school and college. They enjoyed a 62-year marriage of fun, travel, faith and an unshakable commitment to their kids and grandkids. Sandy cherished her family and loved being called Sansan by her grandsons. She adored family gatherings and festive occasions, especially hosting and entertaining for her loved ones, her annual trips to the Maryland shore and celebrating birthdays and special occasions with all of her friends.

Sandy and Bob traveled extensively and had a special love for London given an expat assignment living in Holland Park for a few years. She especially loved Portobello Road Market, Harrods, Hyde Park, Oxford Street, The Tube, Wimbledon, and Buckingham Palace. She even attended royal ceremonies at Windsor and saw Diana and her boys often. Sandy was an avid mahjong player and country line dancer. She loved music (especially accordion music) and enjoyed playing golf, bocce and tennis at PGA and The Club at Ibis. She had a great sense of fashion and style, wearing fabulous hats when she and Bob attended the Kentucky Derby for many years. She was creative and had a keen eye for decorating with a love of MacKenzie-Childs. Whether she was planning family trips and parties, encouraging her daughters to be independent and confident or informing her grandsons to take care of their mothers, she lived a life of spirit, love and fun with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed. There will be an amazing welcome reception for her in heaven.

A Mass will be held to celebrate the life of Sandra Hirsh in the Cathedral of St. Ignatius Loyola in West Palm Beach, Florida at 1:00pm on Friday, April 28, 2023 with a reception to follow in the church hall. The service will be livestreamed. The family requests that guests wear pink and green in Sandy's honor. A service of Christian burial will follow at St Mary's Cemetery in Dewitt, NY at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations made to Trustbridge Hospice Foundation 5300 East Ave West Palm Beach, FL 33407 are welcome and appreciated.

We met only once. Decades ago on a mutual friend's cruise to innauguarate a new Carnival Ship out of NYC. Kathy Lee Gifford was the friend. Sandy and Bob stood out in the crowd as this tall regal couple, who we didn't dare to approach! Then, as we sat in a booth for dinner, they walked up and asked if they could sit with us - undistuinguished nobodies as far as they should know. The ice was broken when Bob looked down at my Mickey Mouse watched and kind of furrowed his brow - I thought oh, no our low brow roots have been discovered! Bob slowly pulled back his sleeve and disclosed his identical watch! We have been Chritsmas Card buddies ever since. They had no idea I was in the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, Grammy and CMA voting member etc. Sandy had no idea that Brenda had done some candy creations for Kathy, and became widely know on TV and print as the Candy Queen. We are deeply touched by her passing and thank Bob for informing us. They didn't just exude a classy couple. inside where it counts, they were a classy couple.

Sansan, all my memories of YOU are happy ones. I loved sharing Line Dance class. We laughed all the time. You retaught me, Jane, Pris and Jo Maj Jong. We cruised together and sang at the piano bar thinking our voices were the BEST. We laughed at the beach in Md and you retaught me my Childhood game of Pitch with Rob on the phone. You lasted one night on the COOKIE diet at the beach and then. we had fries and soft ice cream. On the boardwalk we all bought those glitzy purses because you said they were popular in New York. Hand painted glasses with our names on them were gifts you brought to the beach. I loved that you and Ron came to Lisa´s wedding. I could write pages. New Years, phone calls, entertaining our friends from Md with a magic routine you and. Rob performed, and then including Janie and me for AJ´s graduation. Being your friend was so Special and I will treasure those memories. Even my grandson Colin remembers those Mc Donald´s toys you game them. Please rest in PEACE and know how special and dear you were to me, to Ron and to my family. I am so grateful that You were in my life. I treasure our time together. Joyce Bortnick

Sansan was a wonderful person who will be missed by so many. Beth and I could chat over the phone about her for hours. Her fun-loving colourful personality gave us lots to talk about. I always enjoyed hearing her stories and how she was doing. Sansan and Bob were an inspiration of love to us all. Rest in eternal peace Sansan.

We are so very sorry to learn of Sandy´s passing. As a Pine School family and fellow BC alum of Beth´s, we had the opportunity to meet Sandy at many events over the years. The closeness Sandy shared with her family was clearly evident, and we could see how proud she was of you all. What a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother she was. Wishing you peace and strength for the days ahead.
With our deepest condolences, the Spellman Family
