Sandra Gladstein McAllister

November 18, 1938 - May 18, 2025

Sandra Gladstein McAllister, a cherished soul known for her loving heart, zest for life and deep devotion to family, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on November 18, 1938, in Durham, North Carolina, Sandra spent her early years surrounded by the warmth of a close-knit family that shaped her into the remarkable woman she became.

Sandra, the daughter of the late Leoma Barbee and Otha Kelso Herndon, grew up alongside her older brothers, O.K. Jr. and Randall Herndon, weaving a tapestry of memories and love that would last a lifetime. Her family circle expanded when she married the late Sheldon B. Gladstein, the beloved father of her children, Lori Michele Hanley (Terry) and Jeffrey Nathan Gladstein (Julie). Together they nurtured a family that became her pride and joy.

Sandra's loving spirit continued to flourish as she became "Grammy" to her treasured grandchildren: Michael Gladstein (Erin), Bryna Nicole Hanley, Cassidy King (Dalton), Mitchell Gladstein, and Samantha Gladstein. Her love for her children and grandchildren was paramount, and she embraced her role as "Grammy" with every ounce of her being. She spoiled her grandchildren and was dearly loved by them all.

Later in life, Sandra found love again with her second husband, Johnny McAllister, and welcomed into her heart his daughters, Carla Scott (Lester) and Tracy Johnson, along with grandchildren Blake Johnson (Whitney) and Molly Garcia (Ernesto) and great grandchildren Alexandra Zamora, Logan and Levi Johson, and Aaylen, Addyson and Ayden Garcia.

Sandra's legacy is one of love, loyalty, and family. Family meant everything to her, and she was happiest when surrounded by those she loved. Fiercely protective of her family and friends, she loved deeply with all her heart and nurtured lifelong friendships.

Five foot two with sparkling eyes of blue, Sandra had a spirited and lively personality. She managed the Gold Kist/Cotton States Insurance Credit Union for over 30 years. She loved to travel and was always ready for her next adventure, whether traveling in her RV, cruising on a pontoon boat, or riding her Can-Am trike. She enjoyed cross-country trips, the beach, and vacations in Hilton Head; as well as quiet moments reading her favorite books or listening to music.

Sandra was a true Southern cook (her banana pudding a family favorite) and a collector of recipes and many treasures. She loved to shop, was known for her vibrant energy, and shared her warmth with countless lifelong friends. Her family fondly remembers her saying, "Let's be careful out there," a reflection of her ever-watchful, nurturing nature.

She is also survived by Dolly, her beloved Shih-poo, who brought her great comfort and companionship.

Sandra Gladstein McAllister lived a beautiful life full of family, laughter, and love. She lived life fully, loved generously, and leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished forever by all who knew and loved her. She will be missed dearly and remembered always.
