Sandra Sumner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 1, 2008.
YARMOUTHPORT — Sandra (Gehrung) "Sandy" Sumner, 61, has continued on to her next journey, on Feb. 27, 2008.

Our Mother was a loving parent and friend to many.

Born on March 18, 1946, in North Attleboro, she was a 1965 graduate of North Attleboro High School. Sandy moved to Cape Cod in 1969, where she resided for 39 years.

Throughout her life, she was a devoted daughter to her parents, the late Edward A. and Althea H. (Cremendall) Gehrung of North Attleboro and Harwich Port.

She was a loving wife and mother to her two children, Heather Sumner-Kelley of West Yarmouth and Peter E. Sumner of Yarmouthport, and guardian of Caitlyn Runnels of West Yarmouth. She was a second mother to Michael Lopes of West Yarmouth.

She will take with her on her journey her loving memories of her three grandchildren, Max, Peyton, and Logan Sumner; her daughter-in-law, Kendra Sumner and her son-in-law George Kelley. She is also survived by her sisters, Jerrylyn Peterson of Attleboro and Maria Gehrung of Bondsville, and many nieces and nephews.

She was the owner and floral designer of My Favorite Florist flower shop; she also worked at the Ocean House and Anthony's Cummaquid.

Our Mother had many interests; she loved entertaining her friends, fishing, and being with nature. She loved to take care of all animals, most of all she loved to make people laugh. She leaves many people who love her.

A funeral service will be held in Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth, on Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at 11 a.m. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Ancient Cemetery.

Heather and family, George - and all of us that loved her will never forget her smiling eyes, her humor, her tender heart, her wackiness, or even her impish stubbornness!

She left her body that failed her and is home now with a new body that will never get sick, tired, or shed any more tears of pain or sadness - she has full joy, peace and love.

Our lives are a bit darker today from losing her, but heaven is a bit brighter for receiving her.

Through our tears of grief let's remember we will meet and laugh with her again.

Love, prayers, and blessings -
Julie

Dear Heather and Family....I am so, so deeply sorry for your loss. What was written about your Mom was so true. She will be greatly missed.....but will live on the hearts and memories of so many she touched. I can't tell you how many half gallons of ice cream melted in the store while she made me laugh. My heart goes out to you all.
