SANDRO MAYER Obituary

Sandro Mayer died at home on October 10, 2000. He was born November 24, 1907, in Milwaukee, WI. Family moved to New York City in 1913; he attended elementary and high school there. He returned to Wisconsin in 1925 to enter the State University of Madison. After several years, he transferred to Stanford University where he received a B.A. (Department of English) in 1930. In 1932 he entered the University of Virginia Law School, graduating in June 1935. He returned to New York, practicing law at first in New York City and, after 1953, in Putnam and Dutchess Counties. During World War II he served for three years in the Army Department of Ordnance at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. He continued in his law practice to within a few days of his death. He also devoted much time to community concerns, including the Blodgett Library, Fishkill Rural Cemetery and the Sierra Club. He is survived by his wife Constance Mayer, daughter Cornelia Mayer Herzfeld and stepson Dylan Jeannotte. Visiting hours will be 7-9 pm Friday, October 13th, at the Libby Funeral Home in Beacon. There will be a Remembrance Saturday, October 14th at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Sandro Mayer Memorial Fund, c/o Premier National Bank in Fishkill, NY, for Constitution Marsh Sanctuary.
