Sara Weill "Sis" Kantrow

Kantrow, Sara Weill "Sis" Sara "Sis" Weill Kantrow died at her home Tuesday, March 21, 2006. She was born in Abbeville on Nov. 20, 1914, and lived in Baton Rouge all of her married life. Visitation was at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 22. Graveside service for the family was in the Jewish Cemetery, North Street, at 3 p.m. Wednesday, conducted by Rabbi Barry Weinstein of Temple B'nai Israel. She was a graduate of Abbeville High School and LSU, where she was a member of Sigma Delta Tau sorority. She taught at Abbeville High School until her marriage to Byron R. Kantrow in 1938. She was a member of Temple B'nai Israel and B'nai Israel Sisterhood. She was a longtime Red Cross volunteer, a former member of the board of the Woman's Club, former member of the Sharks Investment Club and had served on the board of Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge. She was a bridge player and an avid golfer. She was a longtime member of the Baton Rouge Country Club's Women's Golf Association and was a former women's champion at the club. She is survived by her children, Byron and Susan Kantrow, Michael and Jill Kantrow and Lee and Gretchen Kantrow; and grandchildren, Josh and Barbara Kantrow of Chicago, David Kantrow, Miriam and Ty McMains, Michael Kantrow Jr. of New York City, Brock Kantrow, Emelie and Joe Alton, Byron Lane Kantrow and Sam Kantrow, both of New York City, Mari Kantrow of New Orleans, Buster Kantrow, Dr. Sara Kantrow of Nashville, Tenn., and Lucie Kantrow and Jacob Kantrow. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren, Marcia, Eli and Leo Kantrow, all of Chicago, Kaplan, Parks and Reed McMains, Henry and Abbe Kantrow and Michael Davis and Isaac Alton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Byron R. Kantrow; parents, Jacob and May Wolff Weill; sister, Emelie Weill Weiss; and daughter-in-law, Marcia Kaplan Kantrow. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the East Baton Rouge Parish Library, 7711 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70806, Temple B'nai Israel, 3354 Kleinert Ave., Baton Rouge LA 70806 or a charity of choice.
