Sarah Mooney Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 25 to Sep. 26, 2011.
Sarah went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at St. Clare Manor in Baton Rouge. She was blessed with a peaceful death as she slept. She was a resident of Livonia for 45 years and a member of St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church, Livonia. On May 1, 2011, she rededicated her life to Jesus Christ and fully put her trust in Jesus for her salvation. Sarah was a homemaker and retired LPN. She served as nurse in surgery during World War II in Jennings. During her life she had the experience of living in many parts of south and southwest Louisiana due to the fact her father and husband made their livings in the gas and oil fields of Louisiana. Wherever she lived, teaching children about Jesus was a part of her life. She was a member of the Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the Pointe Coupee Homemakers Club, of which she was president. She was an avid 4-H leader in many parishes in Louisiana. She was a friend of the Catholic Community Services and a community leader. Sarah was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Samuel Hodge Mooney Jr.; parents, Antoine D. Bertrand and Daisy Cumbie Bertrand; brother, Charles Bertrand; sister, Elizabeth Antoinette Bertrand Plummer; sons-in-law, Walter Lee Burris and Keane Anthony Juneau; as well as several baby sisters and brothers. She is survived by three daughters, Daisy Evelyn Mooney Juneau, of Waveland, Miss., Sarah Rebecca Mooney Wiltz and husband Paul Wiltz Jr., of Port Allen, and Sandra Anne Mooney Burris, of Judice. She is also survived by grandchildren, Samuel John Juneau, Dr. Beverly Anne Wiltz, Jude Christopher Juneau, Kathleen Danielle Wiltz and Annedrea Lee Burris; and a great-grandson, Alex Juneau. Sarah has a very dear cousin, Dr. John Avery Bertrand, who has been her dear cousin since the day she was born. She is also survived by her little dog, Luck of the Irish, who loved her and took care of her. A special thanks to St. Clare Manor staff who showed her love and took extra good care of her. Also to the Livonia Police Department, the Livonia Fire Department and her friend, Kerry Gueho. Visitation will be held at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church, La. 78, Livonia, on Monday, Sept. 26, from 8:30 a.m. until a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. She will be buried next to her husband in St. Francis Cabrini Cemetery. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
