Saul Kronzek Obituary
SAUL
On Wednesday, July 27, 2005. Born 1910, in Nashelsk, Poland. Saul immigrated to the United States in 1927 and settled in Pittsburgh. In 1939 he married Fannie Shapira, then secretary at B'nai Israel Synagogue. Together they built a thriving kosher meat market which served the Jewish community of the East End for more than 50 years. Throughout his life Saul was actively involved in Jewish causes. He served as president of the Pittsburgh Labor Zionist Organization, was secretary of the Hebrew Butchers Workers Union, and was a long-time member of B'Nai Israel Synagogue, where he served as a "summer service" rabbi. As a young man, he was involved in local Yiddish theater through the Irene Kaufman Settlement. He is survived by his son Allan and his partner Ruby Jackson, of Sag Harbor, NY, and his daughter Diane & Dr. Harvey Bendix of South Huntingdon Township; his granddaughter Elizabeth Kronzek and husband Vaughn Svendsen of Xenia, Ohio and his brother Morris Kronzek of Florida. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Leo, Herman, Abe and Joseph Kronzek. Services at RALPH SCHUGAR CHAPEL, INC. 5509 Centre Ave., Shadyside, on Friday, 11:00am. Visitation 1 hour prior to service (10-11am). Interment B'nai Israel Cemetery. Contribution may be made to United Jewish Federation, 234 McKee Place, Pittsburgh, PA 15213.
