It was both an honor and a joy to know Sky - as a person and as a teacher. His presence left a meaningful impact on all of us, and his unique approach to teaching continues to resonate. A few anonymous student comments from years past illustrate this better than any formal tribute ever could:
"I really appreciate professor Foerster´s teaching style. The classes were focused on discussions that reflected the readings and supported by written assignments, which are much more beneficial than testing."
"Professor Foerster took simple information and always gave it to us with an added value. He also has the remarkable ability to teach by asking questions."
"Thank you again for this subject, it was simply the best! More practical things and almost no theory, just what we wanted :)"
"The best course I´ve taken. Frankly."
"Best professor I´ve had so far. Excellent teaching."
"Dr. Foerster was a great addition to my semestral curriculum. Classes were conducted in a friendly manner and were interesting from start to finish."
He will be deeply missed. Sincere condolences from Masaryk University.

So sorry to hear about Sky's passing. I knew Sky through my membership in the World Affair's Council of Pittsburgh. Sky and the team at WAC did a great job providing educational opportunities in the Pittsburgh region on international issues. Sky had such enthusiasm and passion! I learned so much from those programs. What a gift he gave to Pittsburgh! And what an exceptional person he was! He leaves behind an enduring legacy of service.

Sky was an extraordinary leader, colleague, and friend in the Department of Political Science - all those who knew him will miss him even as we celebrate his life and express our gratitude for his wisdom and his passion.
I knew Sky mostly through his mentorship of our future Rhodes and Marshall Scholars - he was a brilliant mind with a knack for helping talented young men and women find their true purpose in life. That kind of impact cannot be measured, but it will be felt by everyone those young leaders interact with throughout their lives.

I knew Sky from his time leading the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh. He was always in motion and seemed to be everywhere - spreading ideas and kindness and getting things done. I loved his and Janet's parties, too, especially when African drums were involved. :) He will be sorely missed by people all over the world.

What an incredible man. Sky looked after me personally and professionally at the World Affairs Council. It could be an intimidating environment to a brand new 21 year old from Alabama. Sky was always a face I looked forward to seeing. He saw me for all I was and all I could become. I credit much of my success to him.
Janet, you are both such an inspiration of how to live like wholeheartedly and fully. Thank you for sharing him with us!

I am a former Afghan Air Force officer and had the honor and privilege of knowing Sky. He was an incredible human being . After the fall of Afghanistan, Sky helped many Afghan families resettled in Colorado Springs including mine. His kindness, generosity, and support made an huge impact on our community and gave many of us strength during one of the darkest times in our lives. His efforts will never be forgotten. I am so grateful for everything he did.
To Janet and his family, I send my deepest and heartfelt condolences. Sky will always be remembered with love and gratitude. He will remain in my heart and in my family´s prayers forever. May his soul rest in peace.

I was fortunate to know him but briefly as he was a fixture at the DTRA Advanced Systems and Concepts "Summer Study" event at the USAFA INSS. My boss, Michael Wheeler, introduced us. I always enjoyed our exchanges and if memory serves, he was a panelist for us at those events. May he rest in eternal peace.

The world will never be the same with Sky not in it!
I was so fortunate to work with Sky for 10 years at World Affairs Council and be a part of his family. He was a great mentor and more importantly a loving and caring friend. So blessed that Herb and I were able to enjoy visiting and learning about the Air Force Academy when we visited him in Colorado Springs.
Best to the family! Becky and Herb Wright

I will always remember how Sky welcomed me when I first moved to Pittburgh 20 years ago and how he provided true friendship, collaboration and counsel. His energy and vision was a marvel to behold. Among his many talents, he was a tireless advocate for international communities in Pittsburgh, his legacy lives on in western Pennsylvana. Warm hugs and blessings to Janet and the extended family.

I was fortunate to get the chance to work with Sky at the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh. He brought me on as a contractor and provided me with so many opportunities. I was grateful not just professionally, but because I learned so much from him and the organization. I also got to know Janet through work, and she made a meaningful impact on my life as well. I'm thinking of Janet, their girls, and everyone who knew and loved him.

Sky and Janet were our neighbors in Colorado Springs. Lot of interesting discussions while working in the yard, shoveling snow in the drive or gin and tonic on the back deck. Super guy and patriot. He will be missed.

Overall I am grateful and proud of having had the privilege of being part of Sky´s and his family life. I learn a lot from him and from Janet while I was doing my Ph.D. at Pitt. Thanks to Sky I was able to contribute to giving voice to the many migrants´ communities in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County. Recently I visited Pittsburgh, after 19 years and I realized that legacy was still alive, what we did was remembered and appreciated after such a long time. That is only a small part of Sky´s legacy to us, to Pittsburgh, to the World.

Sky was a beautiful, kind, and passionate human being who cared so deeply about humanity and the world generally. I will always remember his endless dad jokes, his passion for teaching and empowering those around him, and his love for the outdoors. He was a powerhouse who will always be remembered and cherished for the light he brought into this world.

Our world has lost a true champion of caring and morals. An educator who impacted generations through his work. My time of collaboration with him at the WAC of Pgh demonstrated his commitment to the future through his sharing of his knowledge and experience. He will be so missed because of his quest for making sure the standards of decency and truth were passed on through his example.
I was so blessed and privileged to have been touched by his work and to have been able to call him a friend.

Sky was so warm and friendly. He thought big thoughts and challenged others to do the same. I only wish a few more of us could keep up. Even while thinking big, Sky made sure to keep track of even the smallest exchanges because he was a generous human being. Janet and family, thank you for sharing this remarkable person with the rest of us.

It was a pleasure and an honour to have met and known Sky. His obituary outlines the side of Sky we didn´t know. What an amazing life and such wonderful achievements. We met Sky and Janet on a South America cruise in 2020 and have been friends ever since. I think we saw more of the fun side of him. He loved to engage in debate at the dinner table but also liked to joke and have a good laugh. We send our heartfelt condolences to Janet and his daughters. Sky will always be in our hearts

Sky was a powerful force for good, an intellectual pillar, and a devoted member at First Congregational Church. His zeal for life, wonderful singing in the choir, and many Forum made him a major contributor to FCC. Sky´s forum talks were always engaging, giving enlightening insight to complex political situations such as the war in Ukraine and other topics. Sky cared deeply for the right treatment of immigrants and refugees. I´ll miss you Sky. May you rest in peace.

Tabitha and I had the privilege of staying at Sky and Janet's beautiful home in Colorado Springs as house sitters to look after their dogs Gabby and Molly in March of 2023. We remember Sky as very warm and welcoming. He cooked us a fabulous welcoming meal, showed us around town and generally made us feel very comfortable before setting off on vacation. I am sure he made the world a better place and will be missed by all who knew him.
