Selma Costa Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 3, 2025.
Selma Jorge Costa passed away peacefully on January 25, 2025, after an eight-year journey with Alzheimer's disease. She remained strong until the very end, maintaining her kindness, compassion, and loving yet feisty spirit.

Born on May 4, 1938, in Tauá, Brazil, Selma was a twin to her sister, Celia Jorge Moretti, who preceded her in death in 2023. She grew up in Fortaleza, Brazil, as one of twelve siblings. In 1966, she immigrated to the United States and made her home in San Diego, California. She was married to Joao Jamie Costa for over 45 years until his passing in 2014. Together, they built a life and worked side by side with their son and daughter as the bookkeeper and accountant for their family business, Hi Tech Honeycomb, for over 20 years.

Selma is survived by her beloved children, Lisa Costa Corbosiero and her husband, Michael; and John Costa and his wife, Stephanie. She is also survived by her cherished sisters, Cira Beaumont, Joanna Rowan, Lidice Marshall, Vanda Jorge Pires, and Marlene Teixeira; and her brother, Joao Jorge Marques Melo. Additionally, she leaves behind her treasured grandsons, Johnny Costa and his wife, Dezeri, Joseph Costa, Nicholas Corbosiero, and Lucas Corbosiero.

Selma was deeply loved and respected. She dedicated her life to caring for her family, and in her later years, she was cared for with love by her devoted sisters and compassionate caregivers. She took immense pride in her family and found great joy in spending quality time with her children and grandsons.

Beyond her love for family, Selma found excitement in playing slot machines. After a long workweek, she and her husband would unwind and have fun at Barona Casino, where she was well known and had a reputation for being lucky.

A memorial service will be held on **February 21, 2025, at 11:00 AM** at **Ascension Catholic Church,** located at **11292 Clairemont Mesa Blvd, San Diego, CA 92124.** A lunch reception will follow in the church hall.

Selma's kindness, love, and unwavering devotion to her family will be dearly missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to **Alzheimer's San Diego.** A personal donation link is attached.

My condolences to the Costa family for your loss. In the few times that I saw her and met her she protected herself as a very happy and loved person, she is now in a place with no suffering and back with her husband.

P.S

My memories of my dear friend Selma
Selma enjoyed music, particularly Julio Iglesias and Roberto Carlos. She also liked hosting parties and traveling to Las Vegas for casino tournaments.
We've done many things together in the forty years l've known Selma. One memorable time, she called and said, "Let's go to Vegas; I have reservations." We left San Diego at 10:00 pm, When we arrived in Vegas it was 3:00 AM, and stay playing slot machines until 8:00 am. Our surprise was that we didn't have a regular room but a gambling room. Selma and John played slot machines while Carlos and I rested on roller beds in the private gambling room.
We did get a great room the next day. The experience included various activities and interactions. I cherished memories of my best friends Selma and John. You will always be in my heart.

I'm so sorry that Selma is gone! When living in San Diego in the 1970s/1980s,
I had many occasions to enjoy her joyful company, mostly in the gatherings promoted by Cira. I hope that Lisa, Cira and all the family find comfort in the good memories shared with their beloved Selma. Gog bless you all. Susana Jimenez.
