Shane Wolff Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 28 to Dec. 29, 2022.
Shane Wolff, 15, of Media, PA, passed away on December 19, 2022. He is survived by his mother Kim, father Fran, sister Grace, grandmother Gennie Wolff, grandparents Lynda and Tom Sampsell and dozens of other family members. Visitation will be on Friday, January 6, 2023, 6:30-8:30pm at Lima Methodist Church, 209 N Middletown Rd (Rte 352), Media, PA 19063. A private memorial service will also be held.

Shane River Wolff was born on December 19, 2007. He was just 15 years old when he passed away. However, in those 15 years Shane already had a rich life filled with many memories and accomplishments.

He loved the outdoors and nature. Shane enjoyed bike riding, hiking and walks in the woods. His hobbies included tennis, swimming and golf. He spent time frequently with his extended family and had a wonderful close circle of friends that meant the world to him. The favorite part of his day was playing computer games online with friends.

Shane recently had become very passionate about the environment. He had deep convictions about protecting the Earth in the face of climate change. He recently stated that the thing that would make him happiest is "If there were less CO2 emissions in the world". And the thing that would make him second happiest is "If there were more trees planted to help reduce carbon dioxide levels in the world".

As a Boy Scout Shane had achieved the rank of Life Scout and was currently working towards his Eagle Scout. He exemplified the Scout Law, most notably, always wanting to be helpful. He volunteered his time to help others in the community. In Scouting, he partnered with Habitat for Humanity and volunteered locally at the Media Food Bank.

He spent the last few seasons working on weekends and summer vacation at the Wolff Family Farm Market. He was excited to learn the ropes and thoroughly enjoyed soaking up everything about marketing and business.

Shane excelled scholastically both in the classroom and in after-school activities. He played the viola in the school orchestra through elementary school and middle school. He achieved distinguished honor roll for every marking period throughout Springton Lake Middle School and Penncrest High School. As a freshman, he had recently taken the PSATs and achieved a perfect score on the math section. He was the Geography Bee School Champion in 2018 and 2019. He was a county-wide finalist in the Math 24-Game competition. Shane won numerous awards competing for Rose Tree Media School District in the Science Olympiad.

He loved computer programming and coding and truly enjoyed creating his own computer games from scratch. He was also an avid "Cuber". He first solved the conventional 3x3 Rubik's cube at age 7. This immediately sparked his interest in solving numerous other cubes. He had a collection of more than 35 cubes. Each new cube was bigger and more complex than the one before it. But most of all, Shane enjoyed sharing his love of cubing with others. He would patiently teach anyone who wanted to learn how to solve the Rubik's cubes.

But more than any of his awards and achievements, what shined brightest in Shane was his beautiful soul. He was kind, caring and profoundly selfless, always putting other's needs before his own. It is an understatement to say that he enjoyed helping others. He was not your average 15-year-old boy. He was an "old soul" and lived a life of unassuming simplicity. He never took more than he needed or asked for more than his share. Shane prided himself on living a self-contained and modest life. He carried himself with a peaceful, loving dignity which was cherished by his family, friends and all who knew him. He was so loved and will be so deeply missed. Shane River Wolff left this world long before his time.

Well, as a friend of Shane, we met in a camp when we were in early elementary school. We would commonly play small games such as tag, dodgeball, kickball; it would vary. Something we frequently discussed was coding as well and rubix cubes, I remember witnessing the sight of him solving it quickly!

I was friends with Shane during Middle School. We both had Advisory together, and we would both goof around and make jokes together. I really miss him, and I regret not being able to talk to him more in Freshman year. I still remember when we first met, when he showed me how fast he could solve a Rubik´s Cube- all the way back in 2019. Shane was an amazing, intelligent, and gifted person. The world will miss him.

Fran Kim and Grace,
My heart is broken for you and your family. I have such fond memories of Play time Pals. Our boys grew up together. They loved to go to playgrounds, all of our houses, Betty´s etc. This is devastating. Judging by the beautifully written memorial, It sounds like Shane grew up with a life full of beautiful memories. He was a sweet, intelligent boy who loved nature, scouts and helping people. When I looked a the picture, he still looked the same.
If there´s anything I can do, please don´t hesitate to ask.

Rest in peace Shane.

Love Faith and Brandon

Fran,

I just read Shane´s obituary, what a beautiful tribute/celebration of this life. I was not lucky enough to know Shane, from the stories you shared with me I know I would have liked him and saw firsthand how special Shane is.

My daughter thought we should plant a tree in Pennsylvania so we could visit it, so I was thinking of an apple tree in my backyard, along with a tree honoring Shane through the "TheGiftedTree". Good bless, sending love, thoughts, strength, and prayers Paul Soscia

Dear Kim, Fran, Grace and family,
In a feeble attempt to put words to an event that is unspeakable, so many of us share your grief. The magnitude of your loss is immeasurable, but small beams of light shine through as we recall and cherish the times spent with Shane. I remember a sweet and smart second grader who loved learning and relished a challenge. As I read the beautiful comments from people who knew him as he grew, it is apparent that he continued to blossom into a wonderful human. I will keep him alive in my heart and memory and wish for you some solace in the fact that Shane had a positive role in many lives. Elizabeth Lutz

Dear Fran, Kim and Grace: Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. May your love for each other and your precious memories of Shane bring you healing and peace. In honor of Shane's memory, a tree was planted in Mexico (The Gifted Tree). Grace, I know how much you loved your brother and I know how much you love Axolotls. You told me they are now an endangered species. I chose this location since Axolotls originated in Mexico. As this tree blossoms and grows, Shane's memory will forever live on. May the tree also allow Axolotls to live on, alongside your brother.
