Shannon Hellman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 23, 2014.
CARY - Shannon Lea Hellman, 46, of Cary passed away at her home Monday, April 21, 2014 after a long struggle with Young Onset Alzheimer's disease. Her family delighted in her strong Christian faith and that they will see her again in heaven. Shannon was an outgoing and vibrant woman who always had a bright smile. Because her dad was in the Air Force, she grew up in many places around the world and made an impact on people's lives wherever she went. Her family was blessed by memories and pictures from many of her friends during the last stages of her illness. They celebrated this beautiful life that will remain in their hearts forever. Shannon won the Miss Virginia National Teenager pageant in 1984. Through this pageant she earned a full tuition scholarship to Oklahoma City University where she graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. degree in Mass Communications in 1989. She was very creative and worked as a graphic designer upon graduation until her children were born. She adored her three children and homeschooled them for four years. Shannon was born June 28, 1967 in Landstuhl, Germany, to Michael Frank and Judy McAlister Rundle. She married Carl A. Hellman IV, her high school sweetheart and husband of 25 years. Surviving are her husband, Carl, and children, Austin, Bryan and Carolyn Hellman of Cary; her parents, Michael and Judy Rundle of Cary; sister, Shelly (and husband, Robert) Sutherland of Los Alamos, NM; brother, Steve (and wife, Michelle) Rundle of Yokota AB, Japan; mother-in-law, Jackie Hellman of Hampton, VA; brother-in-law, Rick Hellman of Hampton, VA; nieces and nephews, Landon, Kelson, Allie, Amanda, Kristen, Nathan, Kaitlyn, and David; and several other extended family and friends. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Cary. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 26, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Cary. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary. Online condolences may be sent to the family through www.brownwynnecary.com. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's North Carolina, Inc. (alznc.org) at 1305 Navaho Dr. #101, Raleigh, NC 27609.

Carl. I moved away from Poquoson over Christmas break 1981, my freshman year. I remember hanging out with you while growing up in that wonderful small town. Somehow my wife notified me of a post on facebook about Shannon's passing. I can't say I remember her all that well. Maybe she moved in after I had left. I am very sorry to hear of your loss. I literally went through all of the photos in the gallery, and it was a wonderful experience for me. Thank you for allowing me to view a part of your life. Until we all meet again.

Carl, May God be with you and your family at this time and give you strength moving forward.

Please know that Jerry and I are thinking of you all and praying for all of you!
We didn't have the opportunity to know Shannon well since just coming to Cary but have gotten to know your family and just love all of them!
We are only finite human beings. We can only see the present and the past. The future is a little frightening to us. So weed need to hold onto God's hand and trust Him to calm our fears. We don't call our own shots,,,God has a plan for us, mysterious though it may seem, we want to be in the center of it. That is the safest place on earth to be! We love you and your family!!!

Dear Carl and Family,

Although I did not know Shannon personally, everyone on the Hellman/Tyler side of the family, my second family, spoke so highly of her and your entire family. Your remarkable strength, love and faith have been an inspiration.
I have to tell you; the first thing that came to mind is that; your Dad was there to greet her with open arms. I always find comfort in knowing as we wave good bye on this side, those on the other side are anxiously waving hello.
I will keep you and yours in my prayers.

Respectfully,
Sheryl

Your family has made an impact in many people's lives. Shannon was a beautiful woman who fought the fight the dignity and courage. As I have read the many tributes to her, I admire the way she lived her life for Jesus and has left an incredible legacy most people twice her age never do. We send our love and prayers, Cindy, Mark and family
