Sharon Flaherty Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 30, 2024.
Sharon Catherine Flaherty, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, teacher, artist, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2024. She leaves behind a legacy of creativity, love, and inspiration.

Born on July 25, 1959 in Lorain Ohio, she was the youngest of eight children. She often shared stories of a bustling household filled with energy, and her beloved mother Dorothy who welcomed every visitor with warmth and grace.

Sharon graduated Lorain Catholic in 1977, then went on to graduate from Baldwin Wallace with Masters in education and a minor in History. With her passion for teaching and the Spanish language, Sharon spent years shaping young minds as a Spanish teacher at Holy Name and Magnificat High Schools. "Señora Flaherty" was cherished by many students, who still recall her as their favorite teacher, known for her kindness and enthusiasm for the Spanish language and culture.

Outside the classroom, Sharon was an artist at heart. She had a natural gift for writing poetry and stories, a talent that brought her joy and touched the lives of those around her. Sharon also found immense happiness in doing arts and crafts with her beloved grandsons, fostering creativity and laughter in each shared moment.

Music was another great passion in Sharon's life. A talented singer, she performed with local acts such as Honey and SWAK (Sealed With A Kiss), sharing her beautiful voice with the community. Sharon's love for music and performing was something she treasured deeply, and her voice brought joy to many.

Sharon's family was the center of her world. She leaves behind her daughter Jackie Sivik (husband Bob) of Avon, OH, her son Ryan Rebman (wife Breanna) of Lorain, OH, and her five cherished grandchildren-Declan, Hudson, Rowen, Bennett, and Nolan-whom she adored. She also leaves behind her best friend and former husband Robert Rebman, siblings Roseanne Jackson, Kevin (Patty) Flaherty, Margaret Wilkins, Thomas Flaherty, Mary (Klaus) Grm, sister-in-law Karen Coley, and all of her nieces and nephews, each of which she shared a special bond.

She was preceded in death by her parents Dorothy and William "Big Bill" Flaherty, her sister Patricia Petronski (Edward), her brother William "Billy" Flaherty, brother-in-law Timothy Wilkins, and her beloved cat of 16 yrs Señor Blanco.

Sharon's vibrant spirit will be honored in a Celebration of Life, to be held on Saturday, December 7th in Lakewood OH (details to follow) where family and friends are invited to gather to remember her creativity, intelligence, warmth, and vibrance.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Sharon's memory by spending time with your loved ones, sharing stories, singing a song, or creating something beautiful-just as Sharon would have done.

Just a few more pictures of the band days - RIP Sharon

Let me try this again- I´m Kathy, one of the members of the bands that Sharon played and sang with - I loaded some images yesterday , but my message never went through -

Sharon was the original member of the first girl band HONEY back in the early 80´s. That´s the photo of us in the gold shorts where we were playing the islands the summer before we transitioned to SWAK. Sharon was pregnant there and she bowed out of the band when we changed to SWAK. Later down the road a few years she came back as the bassist when we had a new singer and new configuration- that´s where the remainder of the images are from-

Sharon was the wild and crazy one with her quick wit and layed back sense of humor - once she had 1/2 of her head braided for a long time, super cool back then. And she was always in a disarray of sorts with her bag of stage clothes, makeup and tampons falling out at random on our way to gigs. That was just Sharon.

So one night we all got stranded on I-77 in a snowstorm on our way back from the AKron holiday Inn at 3 am. We had Robby´s old Cab which was huge and we could all fit in with our gear- Robby had to come get us that night. There are many fond memories of times we spent together on the band - so sorry for this loss - family and friends - RIP Sharon my friend !

Wherever Sharon ventured she transformed strangers into friends. We gathered with friends at El Carnicero in Lakewood some years passed Sharon began introducing herself to the diners, sharing her food and stories about herself. Before we knew it we all knew everyone's story in the room! It was just Sharon's way- and I will surely miss her way
Godspeed my friend- til we meet again
