1953 ~ 2015
Our wonderful mother and wife, Sharon Casey Odell of Park City, UT passed away suddenly, unexpectedly and far too early at the age of 62 on October 21st, 2015.
She was born on May 16th, 1953 in San Francisco, California to Donald and Ernestine Casey. During her childhood, she was a strong-willed older sister to her three younger brothers. She attended Stanford University where she met her husband, Timothy W. Odell in their freshman dormitory. While the details of who courted who remained controversial, they were eventually married June 15th, 1980 and had three children: Ian, Katie, and Erin. She is survived by her husband, three children, two grandchildren: Eleanor and Mercedes Odell, and three brothers: Michael, James, and Richard Casey.
Sharon was an avid masters swimmer and coach for many years and enjoyed the camaraderie of her fellow swimmers in Park City and at the Steiner Aquatic center in Salt Lake City. Her swimming performance was hindered by a major stroke in 2012 followed by a difficult yet remarkable recovery. She continued to swim on a regular basis and fittingly was doing what she loved at the time of her death. A close second to swimming, Sharon's second love was French language and culture. In college, she studied in France for a year and returned on vacations with her husband Tim, which were some of the highlights of her life. Finally, her passion for her children and animals was unparalleled. She raised three successful and well-balanced children; after they moved out of the house, she devoted more of her time to taking care of her dogs Daisy and Rosie as well as the animals at Petco at Kimball Junction. She also enjoyed her work on the Snyderville Basin Recreation Board in planning the trail system around Kimball Junction and the pool at Ecker Hill Middle School.
Funeral mass will be held at 10:00am on Friday, October 30th at St. Mary's of the Assumption Parish, 1505 White Pine Canyon Road, followed by a burial at Heber City Cemetery, 500 North 550 East. Reception follows at St. Mary's. Condolences maybe shared online at probstfamilyfunerals.com

I will always have fond memories of our time together when our girls were growing up. Sharon was kind, intelligent, and athletic with a wonderfully dry sense of humor, and I always appreciated our talks on the finer points of swimming or parenting. Sharon made a difference in my life and I will miss her.

Oh Dear, such a wonderful part of our community has found a softer place to land. Sharon and I seemed to always run into each other in the store, it was a joke between us. Tim, I will always remember swimming with you both on Thanksgiving in the freezing Park City air. You both were a bigger part of my life as a new single girl, than you will ever know. Thank you. Blessings. She will be deeply missed. Love.

Tim-
My heartfelt thoughts are with you and your amazing family during this very difficult and hard time. Sharon was so loved and admired by many, a fine athlete, and her love of others and her animal friends was a bright spot in this world. May the sun shine and heal your hearts during this painful time

I came to be a friend of Sharon's through The Steiner Masters Swim team. Of course, I was not a good or fast enough swimmer to swim in or close to her lane. But I did swim for years in the same lane as her husband, Tim Odell, whom I have wisely entrusted with my health for close to twenty years. And after swim workouts on Saturday morning a group of the Masters swimmers would go to breakfast Tim and Sharon were central figures in the breakfast group and I was honored to be included. It was through those interactions with Tim and Sharon that I got to be a friend of Sharon's. Tim and Sharon were a wonderful married couple and it was a joy to watch them interact. My deepest sympathies to Tim who has lost such a terrific life partner.
Breakfasts with Sharon and group were a great deal of fun. She was always deeply engaged in the conversations and her quick wit and wide knowledge made her someone to be reckoned with. I came to especially value Sharon's wicked sharp sense of humor. She laughed a lot and made others laugh with her. Breakfasts without her will never be the same. Her vivacious spirit enlivened all of us. I have missed her presence these last few years and, with heavy heart, grieve for her loss to our swim community. Tim and her children have my deepest condolences and best wishes for learning how to carry on without her.

Sharon was an inspiration. It is so unfair that someone so wonderful was taken so early in life.
Working with Sharon at Petco was fun. Although I knew Sharon only a short period of time I am grateful to have experienced her kindness, her sense of humor and her dedication to the animals.

Sharon, May the water be cobalt blue, clearer, calmer and always the perfect temperature where you are now. You were such an inspiration to me for how you handled your health issues these past years. I so admired your strength and desire to move ahead and live life to it's fullest. I feel fortunate to have known you and to have swam with you for so many years.

October 24, 2015

My deepest sympathy to your family.
I will truly miss Sharon! Her passion for the water was such an inspiration for many of us. I was honored share her lane any time and was amazed at her strength and passion. I sure hope they have water in Heaven, the Angels will have a hard time keeping up with you my friend. You all, were so blessed to call her your mother, sister, wife, grandmother as we were to have her as a friend. Prayers are with you,
Love, Jeanne Rettos Logan and family
God Bless

Dear Sharon's lovely family, I enjoyed working with Sharon for the last few years. She was always a pleasure to be around. She would talk about her family all the time and I have to laugh that she was upset that Tim would want to spend $60 on a tiny baby hat! I am sorry to not be able to attend the services Friday and to be able to meet all the great family she talked about. She will be missed and remembered. Lynn Angelini, Park City Physical Therapy
