Sharon Widmer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 14, 2025.
Sharon Elaine Widmer of St. Bonifacus, MN passed away on August 22, 2025 at her sister's home in Avondale, Arizona, three years after being diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. She was 67. Born on January 11, 1958, Sharon was known for her vibrant personality, deep love for her family and friends, and her unwavering faith. Her sense of humor and ability to find the perfect song for any occasion remained with her until her final days.

Sharon graduated from Wellsburg Community High School in 1976 and built a rewarding 27-year career as the Travel Manager at The Goodman Group. Her professional journey began after high school, where she developed her lifelong passion for exploring the world. Sharon felt blessed to still be able to travel and make memories thanks to the Mayo Clinic trial she was chosen to participate in, like her trip to Portugal in September of 2024. She often quoted what a Mayo nurse once said to her, "What is the purpose of extending your life if you're not going to live it?"

An avid lover of nature, Sharon could often be found taking walks, kayaking, bike riding, gardening, and bird watching in her backyard. She had a passion for hosting beautifully themed parties over the years and a special talent for photography, with a particular fondness for capturing stunning sunsets.

Sharon is survived by her brother, Arlen Boelts of Des Moines, IA; sister Donna Boelts of Avondale, AZ; niece Michelle Willer of Avondale, AZ; and nephew, Stephen Sciachitano of Des Moines, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Elizabeth (Betty) Boelts (Siems) of Wellsburg, IA.

A celebration of Sharon's life will be held in the spring of 2026 in Minnesota. Details will be announced in the near future. Friends and Family are encouraged to honor her memory by enjoying nature, traveling, and creating lasting memories. Please consider making a contribution in Sharon's name to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum or The Mayo Clinic.

To the family of Sharon - I was so saddened to hear of the passing of my dear friend, Sharon. We were Co-Workers for 8 years at The Goodman Group in Chaska, MN. For a few of those years, we shared an office, and had desks right next to each other. We would begin each morning with a hug before our quick chat over our first cup of coffee. Sharon and I became dear friends. I spent many fun times at her home, enjoying a glass of wine before some tasty dinners that she made. Sharon always had a smile on her face. She was respectful to everyone she came in contact with, and was excellent with her clients as their travel agent. Sharon is now at Peace. My Sympathy to all, Kristin Gilbert, Boulder, CO.

I worked at the Goodman Group from 1998 until my retirement in 2013. Sharon´s Office right off the main entrance made her a highly visible presence to all of us. She always had a smile on her face and created a welcoming and positive atmosphere.
We shared a love of travel and an awe of the beauty in nature. She was not only a wonderful person, but a great photographer who appreciated creation. Who else would stop on their way to work to take a photo of the a spider web that was lit up by morning dew and spotlighted by the sunrise. Rest in heavenly peace Sharon!
Sincerely, Mary Bye
