Sharyn O'Neill Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 20, 2014.
Sharyn Weiss O'Neill, 65, of Slocum Township passed away Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014, with her family and friends by her side after a courageous, five-year battle with lung cancer. She was an inspiration to many, always smiling and laughing. She believed in the motto Carpe Diem, living life to the fullest.

Sharyn was born to Betty Weiss-Baer and the late Nathan (Sonny) Weiss on Sept. 14, 1949, in Wilkes-Barre. She graduated from Meyers High School in 1967 and earned her license in cosmetology from Empire Beauty School in Wilkes-Barre.

Sharyn married her true love, John Jack O'Neill Jr., on March 10, 1971.

A mother and homemaker, she served for 15 years in the Rice Elementary and Crestwood High School PTA and was a den mother for a Cub Scout pack, as well as a Girl Scout leader.

Sharyn was a volunteer with the Slocum Township Volunteer Ambulance Association for 10 years and was employed by Lord and Taylor.

Preceding her in death were her father, Nathan (Sonny) Weiss; brother, Barry (Chip) Weiss; and stepfather, Morton Baer.

Sharyn is survived by her husband of 43 years, John J. O'Neill Jr., Slocum Township; her mother, Betty Weiss-Baer; daughter, Kendra Bevill, Los Angeles, Calif.; son, Sean O'Neill, Slocum Township; and grandchildren Jason and Cameron O'Neill and Kinsey and Kayla Bevill.

The family would like to thank Dr. Adler, Dr. Lucas, Dr. Greenwald, the staff at Celtic Hospice and the friends who have helped with their presence and words of solace.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Desiderio Funeral Home Inc., 436 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountain Top.

God saw you getting tired
and a cure was not to be
so he put his arms around you
and whispered,
"Come to Me"

With tearful eyes we watched you
and saw you pass away
and although we love you dearly
we could not make you stay.

A Golden heart stopped beating
hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.

May it somehow comfort you to know that you are thought of and prayed for by so many. Our deepest sympathies to all who knew and loved Mrs. O'Neill. May she rest in peace and walk with Angels, until we meet again.
