Shawn Andrus

Shawn Andrus, age 54, passed away peacefully at his home in Oakdale, Minnesota, on August 7, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). Surrounded by family in his final moments, Shawn's enduring smile and spirit remained a source of light even as the disease gradually took from him the things he loved most-especially his ability to speak. For someone who spent much of his life in retail and cherished conversations with customers, this loss was especially profound.

Born on March 3, 1971, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Shawn grew up with a strong work ethic and deep family ties. He began his career working alongside his father at Keindel's grocery store in North St. Paul. His natural charisma and dedication to service made him a beloved figure among coworkers and customers alike. Later, he continued his career in retail and eventually landed at the Sun Ray Cub Foods store, where he eventually retired as Produce Manager in July 2020 due to the onset of symptoms of MSA. Throughout his years in retail, Shawn was known for his friendly demeanor and the joy he brought to those around him.

In May of 1994, Shawn married Jill McCorkel. Together they welcomed two sons, Justin and Cory, who remained central to Shawn's life. In October of 2005, Shawn married Shelly Warling. This October would have marked their 20th wedding anniversary-a milestone that reflects the strength of their bond and the love they shared.

Shawn found joy in many places: on the golf course with friends or family; cheering on his favorite teams-the Minnesota Vikings, Twins, and Wild; relaxing at the family cabin in Siren, Wisconsin; or vacationing in Hawaii. These were not just hobbies but cherished parts of a life well-lived-moments that brought him peace and happiness.

He is survived by his loving wife Shelly; sons Justin & Cory; mother Porg; brother Scott (Dawn); sisters Kris (Pat) Kottke & Kelly (Paul) Ledin; father- and mother-in-law Tom & April Warling; brother- and sister-in-law Jimmy & Wendy Warling; sister- and brother-in-law Nalani & Derek Cummings; as well as many extended family members who held him dear, including God-Daughter Samantha (Andrus) Remarke.

Shawn was preceded in death by his father Ron; and mother- and father-in-law Karen and Jim Ebensperger.

Those who knew Shawn will remember him for the warmth he radiated-his ever-present smile that lit up every room he entered. Even during hospital stays or hospice care, staff looked forward to seeing him because of the joy he brought with him wherever he went.

Though MSA may have taken much from Shawn physically, it never dimmed the light of his spirit or the love he gave so freely. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held on September 7, 2025, from 01:00 PM to 05:00 PM at the American Legion 2678 7th Ave E, North St Paul MN 55109

Shawn's body has been donated to the University of Minnesota Anatomy Bequest Program for research, and his brain donated to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida through the Brain Support Network.
